Three injured as car crashes into brook
ELDRED, NY A Ford Mustang crashed into Halfway Brook late Saturday afternoon, June 11, about one mile south of Eldred on State Route 55.
Lt. Brian Boyd of the Sullivan County Sheriffs Department said the driver, 25-year-old Paul Schuller, whose last known address was Milford, PA, was traveling southbound on Route 55 at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle on a turn.
The car skidded off the west berm of the highway, knocked down several guardrail posts, became airborne and landed in the bed of a brook, about 12 feet below the highway grade.
Schuller and his two passengers, Ed Darch, 23, of Highland Lake and Carlos Perez, 39, no address given, were all ejected from the vehicle during the 5:19 p.m. crash and landed in the water.
Schuller and Darch were transported to Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis and were airlifted to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY.
Perez was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris.
Boyd said all three were admitted and were undergoing treatment on Sunday. No further information about their conditions was available.
Yulan firefighters assisted Eldred American Legion and Lumberland Fire Department ambulances at the accident scene.
