Campfield kids build hunting cabin

NARROWSBURG, NY — Joseph Skinner would have been proud.

Steve Campfield certainly is. His sons are almost finished building their own hunting cabin.

Josh, 12, wanted to build a hemlock cabin, and he enlisted the help of his younger brother, Jesse, 11. With their father they studied some books and got to work in early April, stripping bark off of tree trunks they cut from their property on Skipperene Road.

Once finished, they will disassemble the cabin and put it back together by a brook in the woods, about a half-mile from their house.

The finished cabin will feature a blue stone floor, wood stove and handmade bunk beds.

“We’re trying to use as few power tools as possible,” Steve said. “I think it’s just the best thing. It’ll be there forever in the woods.”
