DENNIS C. BAIM

YOUNGSVILLE, NY — Dennis C. Baim, a resident of Youngsville, died on Sunday, May 29, 2005 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 58.

The son of Doris Joyner Baim and the late Elwood J. Baim, he was born March 19, 1947 in Liberty.

Baim was a self-employed mechanic at Baim’s Garage in Youngsville, a bus driver for First Student Bus Company and a 40-year member of the Youngsville Fire Department. He was a Councilman for the Town of Callicoon; a member of the United Reformed Church in Youngsville; a U.S. Air Force veteran; a member of the H. Russell Kenyon Post # 5808 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Callicoon; and a member of the Neversink Roundout Antique Machinery Club.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Freer Baim at home; his mother, Doris Joyner Baim of Youngsville; one daughter, Cathy Baim of Lake Huntington; one son, Randy of Youngsville; one brother, Richard of Edmond, Okla.; two sisters, Nancy Baim Kester of Depew and Virginia Baim of Euless, Texas; his mother-in-law, Ryllis Freer of Youngsville; his uncle, Cameron Baim of Narrowsburg; two cousins; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Wednesday, June 1 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with the Reverend Lee Andrews officiating.

Interment is in the Greenhill Cemetery in Youngsville.

EVA BARBARA (BABETTE) ECKARDT

DELRAY BEACH, FL — Eva Barbara (Babette) Eckardt, a former resident of Highland Lake, NY and a resident of Delray Beach passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2005 at the home of her daughter in Delray Beach. She was 95.

The daughter of Margaretha Baldauf, she was born October 8, 1909 in Dankenfeld, Bavaria, Germany. In 1929, she emigrated to the United States and lived in Brooklyn, NY until 1950. On October 31, 1937 she married Albert Eckardt, a devoted union until his passing in 1986. The family moved to Highland Lake, Sullivan County, NY in 1950 where Eckardt was employed by Kolmar Laboratories in Port Jervis, NY until 1972. In 1994 she moved to Guilderland, NY, and, in September 2004, she moved to Delray Beach.

Eckardt is survived by two daughters, Marie Bosch (Mrs. Herman) of Delray Beach and Olga Winsor (Mrs. Frederick) of Altamont, NY; three grandchildren, Albert Bosch of Eldred, NY, Valerie Winsor and Kristina Sutherland of Altamont; two great grandchildren, Sara Bosch of Boca Raton and Matthew Bosch of Orlando; and several nieces and nephews in Germany.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Daniel Bosch of Eldred; two brothers, Albert and Hans Baldauf of Germany; and two sisters, Luise Hager of Germany and Marie Schuch of New York City.

Interment of her remains will take place at a later date at the Eldred Cemetery in Eldred, NY.


HELGA ‘JEAN’ HARAMIS

SELINSGROVE, PA — Helga Jean Haramis, a resident of Selinsgrove and a former resident of Callicoon, died on Monday, May 16, 2005 at the Geising Medical Center in Danville, PA from injuries sustained when she was struck down by a truck while walking in a crosswalk on Sunday afternoon. She was 64.

The daughter of Eugenia Millan and the late Walter Wetzke, she was born January 31, 1941 in New York City.

Haramis was a graduate of Cathedral High School in New York City. She and her husband have been in the restaurant business for more than 35 years. Most recently, she was owner of Kinsfolks Family Restaurant in Selinsgrove. She was named Businesswoman of the year from the Republican Party in 2004.

A family statement said: “Jean was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend, who cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. Jean loved reading, traveling, walking, cooking, music and dancing… she was an avid lover of art. She enjoyed visiting museums and decorating her home.”

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, William Haramis, at home; a son, Michael; two daughters, Stephanie and Kelly; and three grandchildren, Valarie, Stephen and Katy.

MARCUS R. ‘MARK’ HINKLEY JR.

BEDFORD, CONN — Marcus R. ‘Mark’ Hinkley Jr, a resident of Bedford and a former resident of Narrowsburg, NY, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2005 in Bedford.

Hinkley is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Hinkley of Bedford; a son, Warren and his wife Beverly of Euless; a daughter, Susan Vrabel and her husband Bill of Bedford; three grandchildren, Billy Vrabel and his wife Teena of Sherman, Mark Vrabel and his wife Amy of Justin, Pamela Stevenson and her husband Michael of Hurst; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Thursday, May 26 at the Lucas Funeral Home Chapel in Hurst.

Interment is at the Bear Creek Cemetery in Euless.


MICHAEL KUZMIAK JR

HAWLEY, PA — Michael Kuzmiak, Jr., a resident of Hawley for most of his life, died on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale following an illness. He was 92.

The son of the late Michael Kuzmiak, Sr. and Veronica Hutnik Kuzmiak, he was born in Martins Creek, PA.

Kuzmiak was a retired beer coil cleaner and salesperson for Daily’s Products; a member of the St. John’ The Baptist-Russian Orthodox Church, the Hawley Lions Club and the Moose Lodge in Easton; and a Army veteran having served in World War II from 1942 to 1945.

Kuzmiak is survived by his wife of 42 years, Paula A. Kuzmiak at home; a son, Michael Kuzmiak III of Hawley; a daughter, Michelle Myers of Hawley; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Vera Jones and Anna Babock, both of Easton.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.


SYLVIA LEVIN

LAUDERDALE, FLA — Sylvia Levin, a resident of Lauderdale and a former resident of Port Jervis, PA, died Thursday, May 26, 2005 at the Milford Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was 94.

The daughter of the late Henry and Kate Mandel Plotkin, she was born October 9, 1910 in Brooklyn, NY.

She was the widow of the late Samuel Levin who died July 2, 2001.

A 1931 graduate of Syracuse University, she was a member Temple Beth El and Sisterhood of Temple Beth-El, Port Jervis.

Levin is survived by a son, N. Robert Levin and his wife Sandra of Sparrowbush; a daughter, Lucille Haghani of Layfayette, NJ; five grandchildren, Michael Levin of Huguenot, Lori Schall of Port Jervis, Jill Farr and her husband Joseph of Sparrowbush, Monica Moezinia and her husband Henri of England, and Victor Haghani and his wife, Celeste of England; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Levin was predeceased by two grandsons, Henry Levin and Jack Levin and two sisters, Irene Wise and Lucille Copperman.

Services were held on Sunday, May 29 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis.

Interment will be at the Beth-El Cemetery in Port Jervis.

ALMA MISAR

TYLER HILL, PA — Alma Misar, a resident of Tyler Hill and a longtime area resident, died on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Brighton at Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home in Lake Ariel, PA. She was 96.

The daughter of the late John H. and Julia Rutledge Davis, she was born November 16, 1908 in Milanville, PA. She was the widow of the late George Misar.

A family statement read: “She was a beloved sister, aunt and cousin. She will be greatly missed.”

Misar is survived by a brother, Orson Davis Sr. of Barryville, NY and several nieces and nephews.

Misar was predeceased by three sisters, Nora Davis, Florence Smith and Marian Noble and by nine brothers, Charles, Russell, Frank, Wilson, John, Ezra, Harold, Vernon and Alfred Davis.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, May 28 at the Calkins Union Cemetery in Milanville.

DOROTHY SMITH

HAWLEY, PA — Dorothy Smith, a resident of Berlin Township, Hawley and a lifelong area resident, died on Friday, May 20, 2005. She was 87.

The daughter of the late Fred and Cora Martin Schwartz, she was born October 9, 1917 in Honesdale.

Smith was a homemaker and helped run the family farm. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church Parish and attended the Christ Church in Indian Orchard. She was a former member of the Delaware Valley Senior Citizens in Callicoon and an avid pinochle player. She was very talented at the art of crocheting.

Smith is survived by two daughters, Diane and her husband Robert Whittich of Lords Valley and Nancy and her husband George Gallagher of Park Ridge, NJ; a son, Elwin and his wife Evelyn of Hawley; a sister, Stella and her husband Chris Ropke of Narrowsburg; five grandchildren, Lisa, Bryan, Kelly, Melissa and Stephen; and three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Kristine and Anthony.

Smith was predeceased by a brother, Floyd Schwartz and a sister, Mildred Cole.

Services were held on Tuesday, May 24 at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale with the Reverend F. Graham Cliff, pastor of the Grace Epicopal Parish officiating.

Interment will be made in the Indian Orchard Cemetery.
