FREDERICK R. EMERY, SR
LIVINGSON MANOR, NY Frederick R. Emery, Sr., a resident of Livingston Manor and an area resident for over 55 years, died on Friday, May 20, 2005 at the Susquehanna Nursing Home in Johnson City, NY. He was 89.
The son of the late George E. and Ethel Paul Emery, he was born March 13, 1916 in Evansville, WI.
He was a retired equipment operator for Teamsters Local # 445 and a 53-year member of the Manor Hose Co. #1 where he was a past captain of the fire police. In 2001 he was recognized by the NYS Firemans Association as a dedicated fireman for over 50 years of service. He was a member of the Livingston Manor Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where he served as a deacon and trustee. He was a former supervisor for the Sullivan County CACHE Weatherization program.
He enjoyed carpentry, stain glasswork, and he was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and gardener.
A family statement said: He was a loving father and devoted husband.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elinor Bowers Emery, at home; two sons, Fred, Jr and his wife Judy of Livingston Manor and Floyd and his wife Joyce of Verona, VA; one daughter, Linda Vick and her husband Bill of Binghamton; two sisters, Pauline Gray of Oneonta and Mary Young and her husband Jim of Palmetto, FL; a brother-in-law, Leamon Bowers and his wife Althea of Roscoe; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Hendrickson of Jeffersonville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many for whom he was a surrogate parent.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Brent Emery.
Services were held on Tuesday, May 24 at the Harris Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert W. Hoag officiating.
Interment will be at the Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe.

KENNETH R. HAYES
WAYMART, PA Kenneth R. Hayes, a five-month resident of Waymart, PA and a former resident of Blooming Grove and Jersey City, NJ, died on May 22, 2005 at the Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart following an illness. He was 90.
The son of the late William and Mary Hayes, he was born in Brooklyn, NY.
He worked as a police officer in the Jersey City Police Department until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of the Good Shepherd RC Church in Blooming Grove and a veteran of the Navy, having served in WWII.
A family statement said: Mr. Hayes hobbies were cabinet making, poetry, hiking and organic gardening. He was a 30-year veteran of the Jersey City Police Department.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Priscilla (Falkowski) Hayes of Blooming Grove; two daughters, Dawn OLeary of Santa Monica, CA and Colette Hayes of Spring Lake Heights, NJ; a son, Wayne of Cranford, NJ; a brother, James Hayes of Paramus, NJ; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held on Wednesday, May 25 at the Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Gerard L. Hawley, Pastor, officiating.
Interment is in the Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hawley.
ALBERT C. HILLER
NARROWSBURG, NY Albert C. Hiller, a resident of Narrowsburg and a longtime area resident, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at home. He was 77.
The son of the late LeRoy and Laura Young Hiller, he was born July 15, 1927 in Beach Lake, PA. He was a retired lineman with NYSEG for 39 years and a veteran of the US Army, having served as corporal during World War II. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club of NYSEG and a former member of the Narrowsburg Fire Department.
A family statement read: Al loved his family and life. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irma Gustafson Hiller at home; two sons, Ronald Hiller and his wife Terry of Conklin and Fred Hiller and his wife Karen of Rileyville, PA; one daughter, Alice Sam Miller of Narrowsburg; two brothers, Pete Hiller of Atlanta GA, and Darryl Hiller and his wife Mary of Beach Lake, PA; one sister, Leota Westbrook and her husband, Jack, of Starucca, PA; one sister-in-law, Betty Hiller of North Wales, PA; four grandchildren: Kara and Erin Hiller and Christopher and Bryan Miller; one step-grand-daughter, Tracy Lamberton and her husband Paul; and five Lamberton great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Norman Hiller and two sisters, Marge Smith and Thola Lotsey.
Services were held on Saturday, May 21 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg with the Reverend Phyllis Haynes officiating.
Cremation will take place at the Maple Hill Crematory in Archbald, PA.

ALMA DAVIS MISAR
TYLER HILL, PA Alma Davis Misar, a resident of Tyler Hill and a longtime area resident, died on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Brighton at Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home in Lake Ariel, PA. She was 96.
The daughter of the late John H. and Julia Rutledge Davis, she was born November 16, 1908 in Milanville.
She was a housewife and the widow of the late George Misar.
A family statement said: She was a beloved sister, aunt and cousin. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by a brother, Orson Davis, Sr. of Barryville, NY and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Nora Davis, Florence Smith and Marian Noble, and by nine brothers, Charles, Russell, Frank, Wilson, John, Ezra, Harold, Vernon and Alfred Davis.
Services were held on Saturday, May 28 at the Calkins Union Cemetery in Milanville.

RICHARD R. RANKER
SHOHOLA, PA Richard R. Ranker, a resident of Shohola and a 15-year resident of the area, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Bon Secour Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. He was 79.
The son of the late Anthony and Gertrude Dolan Ranker, he was born July 20, 1925 in Summit, NJ.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps having served as a staff sergeant during WWII. He was a member of the 29th Bomb Group having flown over Guam. He received three Bronze Stars.
A family statement reads, Richard was a loving and devoted husband. He loved his dogs, nature and living in the mountains in Shohola.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Geneva Martin Ranker at home; two nieces, Joan Abery and her husband Donald of Wyalusing and Patricia Smith and her husband Malcom of Summerville, GA; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and great grandnieces and great grandnephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 12:00 noon at St. Anns Roman Catholic Church in Shohola with Reverend Thomas Petro officiating.
Interment will be in the German Hill Cemetery in Shohola.

CARL ROHRMAN
LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY Carl Rohrman, a resident of Lake Huntington, died on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at Bethany Village in Bethany, PA. He was 86.
The son of the late Emil and Sabrina Rohrman, he was born October 24, 1918 in Cochecton, NY.
A retired dairy farmer and former employee of Gasko Meyer, he was also a former member of the Lake Huntington Fire Department and the William Rohrman Post VFW.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Rohrman of San Diego, CA; two stepsons, Arthur Butzgy of Glaston, CT and Henry Butzgy of Liberty; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Wilhemina Roeder, Etta Gasko and Dena Kennedy; and three brothers, George, William and Ernest.
Services were held on Monday, May 23, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Narrowsburg.
Interment will be held in the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Cemetery in Lake Huntington.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Huntington Fire Department or to the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
DARIA SIRKO
GLEN SPEY, NY Daria Sirko, a resident of Glen Spey and a longtime area resident, died on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 83.
The daughter of the late Reverend Stephan and Maria Kleparchuk, he was born in Ukraine on July 30, 1921.
She is a surviving member of St. Volodymyrs Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey.
She was predeceased by her husband, Reverend Yaroslav Sirko, who passed in October 1979; a son-in-law, Hans Bauer; and a sister, Lydia Hrabarchuk.
She is survived by a son, Ihor and his wife Antonia of Matamoras, PA; two daughters, Christine Smetaniuk and her husband Igor of Glen Spey and Oksana Bauer of Morristown, NJ; a sister, Luba of Ukraine; and four grandchildren, Alana Smetaniuk, Orest and Roman Bauer and Adrian Sirko.
Services were held on Wednesday, May 25 with a Liturgy Mass at St. Volodymyrs Ukrainian Catholic Church with the Reverend Mark Hirniak officiating.
Interment will be at the Holy Spirit Ukranian Catholic Cemetery in Hamptonburg, NY.
BENJAMIN C. TALMADGE
SPARROWBUSH, NY Benjamin C. Talmadge, a resident of Sparrowbush and a resident of the area for most of his life, died on Sunday, May 15 2005 at Newton Memorial Hospital in Newton, NJ. He was 83.
He was born February 2, 1922 in Otisville, NY.
He was an army veteran having served in WW II and the Korean War. He later retired from the U.S. Army.
He is survived by eight sons, Benjamin C. Jr., David, John, Alfred, Roland, George, Lee and Victor Talmadge; six daughters, Philamena Howey, Delores Conklin, Marie Eck, Shirley Fitts Rose Talmadge and Linda Gerwer; 52 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the widower of the late Philamena I. Morgan Talmadge.
Services were held on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home with the Reverend Stephen Hudson offiating.
Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Matamoras, PA.
VERNE VANORDEN
GETTYSBURG, PA Verne VanOrden, a resident of Gettysburg and a former resident of Jeffersonville, died on Saturday, May 7, 2005 at the Gettysburg Hospital. He was 84.
The son of the late Fred and Jennie Pierce VanOrden, he was born on May 13, 1920 in White Lake.
He was the former owner of the Jeffersonville Bowing Alley.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Bernhardt VanOrden who died April 9, 2001; a brother, Rex and a sister, Beverly.
Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel at the convenience of the family.
