John Lee Band to open 15th Jazzfest

NARROWSBURG, NY—The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance will open Jazzfest at Tusten with The John Lee Band, featuring special guest Claudio Roditi, on Saturday, May 21 at 8:00 p.m. at the Tusten Theatre, 210 Bridge Street.

Bassist John Lee brings together a sextet of dynamic players who are associated with Dizzy Gillespie’s bands and orchestras. Lee served as bassist for Dizzy’s 70th Anniversary Big Band and the United Nation Orchestra. A composer, producer and teacher, Lee has played in the bands of Sonny Rollins, Max Roach and Joe Henderson. He is currently a member of the Fantasy Band.

‘Kicking & Screaming’ is predictable, but hilarious

“Kicking & Screaming” doesn’t impart any life lessons that couldn’t be taught by a 15-minute cartoon playing on Nickelodeon. It’s just a typical sports film (soccer, this time) where the underdogs go the distance and everyone learns the importance of having fun over winning.

Festive Voices fill the DVAA

NARROWSBURG, NY—Festive Voices, not music fans, filled the recital hall of the Delaware Arts Center last Sunday afternoon. It may have been the beautiful weather or just a lack of advertising, but those few in attendance were treated to a professional-grade afternoon of favorite American songs.

Dorothy Stone, a local opera singer and director of the Campo Doro Vocal Music Institute in Beach Lake, PA, led a company of her students in an all-American celebration of “history, heritage and hope.”
