New yoga studio opens
By CHARLIE BUTERBAUGH
NARROWSBURG, NY Jane Morris of the River Lights Yoga Studio will offer a free yoga class and lecture on Kripalu Yoga on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m.
The renovated studio, located a few miles south of Narrowsburg on Route 97, overlooks the Ten Mile River. It recently opened for weekly yoga and Pilates classes.
In addition to Morris yoga classes on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m., Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m., Thursdays at 7:00 p.m., and her Pilates class on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m., Susan Sullivan, a resident of Lava, NY, will teach a yoga class on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m.
Im open to having other teachers come in as well, Morris said. Soon, she will begin hosting retreats for women, who will stay at the River Lights Bed and Breakfast. The retreats will offer sessions in Reiki, tai chi and aromatherapy as well as nature walks, all led by practitioners from the Upper Delaware River community.
Sullivan, an addictions counselor who has been teaching yoga in the area for 15 years, said Morris new studio offers the first specially designed space for yoga instruction within the Upper Delaware corridor. The space is available for groups to rent and use for various workshops.
What can someone gain from attending the classes? Joy, peace and the answers youve been looking for, said Morris, who received her initial training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health.
With practice, we begin to take yoga into our daily lives, she said.
Morris stressed the importance of regular practice. You cant get a feeling for what yoga is unless you study, Morris said.
People often think theyre too old, too heavy or inflexible, Sullivan said. This is very surmountable. Part of our roles as teachers is to provide assistance to give a person a feeling of how the body is supposed to go.
The cost for 10 classes is $100.
If you dont like it you can cancel, Morris said.
