Symposium to offer Upper Delaware ethnic history

BEACH LAKE, PA — Hear about the legendary stories of the Upper Delaware at “Trail Blazers, Adventurers, and Refugees: Stories of Those Who Came to the Upper Delaware Valley,” a public symposium scheduled for Saturday, May 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Central House Resort.

Sponsored by the Upper Delaware Heritage Alliance, the program will include panel discussions, handouts, exhibits, a buffet lunch, and morning and afternoon refreshments. Tickets cost $25 per person. Advance reservations are requested by Friday, May 6.

Speakers including Pike County Historian George J. Fluhr, Sullivan County Historian John Conway, retired National Park Service Historian Mary Curtis, and Wayne County attorney/historical buff Ab Rutherford will discuss immigration patterns into the Upper Delaware River Valley. Perspectives will be given on ancestral settlement experiences in an historical context, and symposium participants will be encouraged to offer their own family immigration tales.
