Casey honored for years of dedicated service
MONTICELLO, NY The Sullivan County Childcare Council will present its 2005 Child Care Advocate of the Year Award to Eileen P. Casey at the annual Provider Recognition Dinner on Saturday, April 30 with a social hour at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. at Fibbers.
Casey, an educator in the Monticello Central School District for over 35 years, began her career as a kindergarten teacher. In 1988, Casey was appointed Assistant Superintendent and continued in that capacity until 1993 when she was appointed Superintendent of Schools. During her years as Assistant Superintendent she had the opportunity to work with the Kindergarten teachers of the school district as well as the elementary principals to revamp the early childhood curriculum to address the developmental needs of students more effectively. This effort involved reviewing extensive research on developmentally appropriate instruction and offering staff development to the primary teachers of the school district.
I have been fortunate to work in the Monticello Central School District for my entire career. One of the greatest rewards is to observe my former students as they complete their education and go on to pursue their life goals. Many of those students have returned to Sullivan County and are now parents and community leaders here. There is nothing I enjoy more than meeting them and hearing of their pursuits. It is a great privilege to me to be part of this wonderful process of education, said Casey.
Many years later children may forget what you taught them but they will never forget how you made them feel. Caring, thats what great educators do, she said.
