Pear blossoms sweet for Milford

MILFORD, PA — The fifth annual Pear Blossom Festival, celebrating the annual blossoming of Broad Street’s maturing pear trees, will be held in Milford on Saturday, April 23. A tent fair in the Ann Street Memorial Park will anchor the day of events between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The parade will step off at 1:00 p.m. from Sarah and Broad Streets. Lineup for the parade will begin at 12:30 on Fifth and Sarah.

To kick off the festival Mayor Merritt Quinn will read a proclamation in front of Borough Hall on Catherine Street on April 22 at 12:00 noon, followed at 12:30 by the Mayor’s Lunch at the Dimmick Inn, where several civic contributors to the community will be recognized by the Milford Business Council, the organizer of the festival.

Community non-profit fund-raising items and informational materials will be on display at the tent fair. There will also be music and food sales, arts and crafts and local business vendors.

Judging for the pear recipe bake-off will be in eight categories with ribbons, tastings and a grand prize. The judges will be chef Chad Gasiorek of the Best Western Inn at Hunts Landing and master baker Fabrice Bransol of Petite Provence. The bake-off will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at Broad and Ann Streets.

Registration for the 5K run will take place at 8:30 a.m. The walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the run will begin at 10:00 a.m. The first 75 runners and 50 walkers to register will get free pear blossom T-shirts. Top overall male and female runners will win a special trophy and $125 in cash.
