EDNA I. CLARK

LACKAWAXEN, PA — Edna I. Clark, a resident of Lackawaxen and a longtime area resident, died on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, PA. She was 81.

The daughter of the late August and Edna Clauss, she was born on April 28, 1923 in Glenburnie, MD.

She was a member of St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Shohola, PA.

A family statement reads: “She was a loving mother and grandmother that will be missed greatly.”

She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Thomas Clark, Sr. who passed away in 2003. She met her husband during WWII while doing her part for the war effort by working at a PX. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Margaret McKean, who passed away in 1996; two brothers, Robin and George Scheckles; one grandson, George McKean; and one great-grandson, Georgie McKean.

She is survived by three sons, Thomas Clark, Jr. and his wife Debra of Lackawaxen, Robert of Lackawaxen and John and his wife Sandra of Hawley; two sisters, June Kinder and Bertha Pfister; one brother, Herbert Clauss; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Saturday, February 11 at the Grey-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville, NY with the Reverend Thomas Petro officiating.

Interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery in Shohola.

DONALD JACK DAVIS

HAWLEY, PA — Donald Jack Davis, a 50-year resident of Hawley, died on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at home following an illness. He was 77.

The son of the late Jesse and Harriet Lemfert Davis, he was born in Lakeville.

He served in the Air Force and was affiliated with the Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers No. 542 in Wilkes-Barre. He was also a member of the Hawley Lions Club and a member and past secretary of the Forest Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and extended family. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Helen Sheehan Davis; a daughter, Jane Johnson of Baltimore, MD; three stepdaughters, Lorraine Zentgraf and Barbara Oliver of Newark, DE and Diane Dein of Honesdale; a stepson, Daniel Sheehan of Baybridge, VA; a sister, Mae Firmstone of Honesdale; a brother, Russell Davis of Lakeville; two granddaughters, Heather and Rachel Johnson; and seven step grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 38 years, Freda Davis in 1985.

A funeral mass was held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in White Mills on February 4 with the Reverend Joseph P. Kutch, pastor, officiating.

Interment is in the Green Gates Cemetery in Hawley.

DOROTHY KUTCHER MEYER

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Dorothy Kutcher Meyer, a resident of Lake Huntington and a lifelong area resident, died on Sunday, February 13, 2005 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was 81.

The daughter of the late Frank and Katherine Kraus Kutcher, she was born on November 27, 1923 in Narrowsburg, NY.

She was a retired vice president for Gasko and Meyer and a member of Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church in Lake Huntington. She was a member of the church choir and a religious education teacher. She was also a member of the Women’s Community Club of Cochecton and the Ambulance Corp and a former treasurer.

A family statement reads: “Loved ones never leave us, for they are always in our hearts.”

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bruce Meyer, at home; two daughters, Terry Hiller and her husband Ron of Conklin, NY and Mary Jane Nober and her husband Jeff of Lake Huntington; two sisters, Mary Dermody and Gertrude Martin; and five grandchildren, Kara and Erin Hiller, and Bruce, Heather and John Nober.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Cunningham and Margaret Preis.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 16 at the Rasmussen Funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church in Lake Huntington, NY with the Reverend Evan Greco O.F.M. officiating.

Interment will be in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Narrowsburg, NY.

HELENE “MARSHA” HUNTER

BARRYVILLE, NY — Helene “Marsha” Hunter, a resident of Barryville, NY and a 14-year area resident died on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ. She was 58.

The daughter of the late Sol and Shirley Hunter, she was born May 4, 1947 in the Bronx, NY.

She worked as a clerk for the Sullivan County DMV and she was a past president and current school board member for the Eldred School District.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Stephen Glasser, at home, and by her son, Seth Glasser of North Grafton, MA.

Cremation will be at the HG Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg, PA.


TALBOT “TALLY” ALEXANDER LOVE

TUXEDO PARK, NY — Talbot “Tally” Alexander Love, a longtime resident of Tuxedo Park, died on January 23, 2005 at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City of complications from a rare blood disease, De Novo Myelodysplastic Syndrome.

The son of Richard Books Love and Allegra Uehlinger Love, he was born on May 15, 1931 in Brooklyn Heights, NY. He grew up on his grandfather’s farm in Goshen amidst a loving family of cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters.

He attended Kent School in Kent, CT and he graduated from Yale University in 1953. He spent four years in R.O.T.C. and became a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force, serving two years of active duty at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Columbus, OH as a public information officer. In the mid-fifties he moved to Tuxedo Park and began working for his family’s paint business, Egan and Hausman Co. in Long Island City.

In 1967 Love and his brother, Neil, opened the Playhouse-on-the-Hudson, a dinner theatre in Cornwall and in 1975 he began his 22-year career with Benjamin Moore and Co. as an architectural consultant in Manhattan. He was president of Construction Specifications Institute for two years and he toured the country lecturing for the American Society of Interior Designers for several years.

He loved classic cars. At one point he owned an English AC Aceca, a forerunner of the Shelby Cobra racing car that he kept in his garage along with many other cars in various states of repair. He loved sailing.

He was a member of and an usher at St. Mary’s-in-Tuxedo Church. He was also president of the Tuxedo Historical Society, for which he wrote the book, “From Dawn to Dusk.” He was in the process of researching another book on Tuxedo’s architectural history.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen, of Tuxedo Park; his former wife, Barbara Claypool, mother of Andrea and Elisabeth; his sister, Allegra Elizabeth Page of Arroyo Grandee, CA; his brother, Cornelius Ruxton Love, III of Stevensville, MD; his daughters, Andrea Love Johnson of Jeffersonville, Elisabeth Love Goot of Scarsdale, and Victoria Alexis Love of New York City; his son, Talbot Alexander Love, Jr. of Tuxedo Park; three grandchildren and a huge network of beloved family members.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 12 at St. Mary’s-in-Tuxedo Church in Tuxedo Park, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tally’s honor to the Kent School in Kent, CT.


MARY CATHERINE PANCURAK

PORT JERVIS, NY — Mary Catherine Pancurack, a five-year resident of Port Jervis, died on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ. She was 91.

The daughter of the late Stephen and Katherine Karczynska Wanko, she was born on May 12, 1913 in Yonkers.

She was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Port Jervis.

She is survived by her husband, Paul P. Pancurak at home; a son, Randolph Karpinski of Sparrowbush; a daughter, Lorraine Larsen of Sandefjord, Norway; three grandsons, Joseph of So. Centerville; Robert of Henrietta, and Michael of Patchoque; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Friday, February 12 at the Grey-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis and were followed by a Mass of Resurrection at St. Mary’s R.C. Church.

Interment is at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Jervis.

ELIZABETH M. POCH

MILFORD, PA — Elizabeth M. Poch, a resident of Milford, died on February 6, 2005 at the Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ. She was 82.

The daughter of Edward and Mary Bunca Yurek, she was born on January 8, 1923 in Raritan, NJ. She married John S. Poch in Manville, NJ on September 20, 1942.

She was a self-employed restaurateur. She and her husband first opened the Midtown Diner in Manville, and later the Chester Country Diner in Chester, NJ until their retirement. She was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church, The Methodist Women’s Association and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union.

She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Joan Zedowski of Hawley, and Shirley Gares of Highland, NY; two sisters, Helen Sudul of Manville, and Edna Carter of Raritan; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son, Gary Poch in 1977.

Services were held on Thursday, February 10 at the Milford United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Repenning officiating.

Interment is at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester Township, NJ.

JULIET R. (ROMEO) SCHERNE

LAKE ARIEL, PA — Juliet R. (Romeo) Scherne, a resident at the Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center in Lake Ariel and a former resident of Elmhurst, NY, died on February 10, 2005 at the Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center following an illness. She was 89.

The daughter of the late Alfonso and Rose Mascari Romeo, she was born in Queens, NY.

A former bookkeeper for Cryder Realty in Queens, NY, she was a member of the Hawley United Methodist Church and a former member of St. Adelbert’s R.C. Church in Maspeth, NY and St. Veronica’s R.C. Church in Paupack.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendy and her husband William Eisenhauer of Greentown; two granddaughters, Dawn Strong of Hawley and Nicole Eisenhauer of Baltimore, MD; and three grandsons.

Memorial services will be held at the Hawley United Methodist Church at a time to be announced with the Reverend Martin L. Cox, Jr., pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at St. Johns Cemetery in Middle Village, NY.
