Get winterized at Lacawac

LAKE WALLENPAUPACK, PA — Snow shoe, “shoe-shoe” (walk) or cross-country ski at the Lacawac Sanctuary on Sunday, January 9 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

The afternoon’s events will begin with a variety of hot soups and bread, coffee or hot chocolate and desserts in the lodge.

Beginning at 2:00 p.m., Jen Naugle will lead a walk and note features of the habitat; Janice Poppich, Lacawac’s director, will guide the snow shoers while sharing winter survival skills; and Sam Jackson will ease skiers along the woods road from the Lodge to the Coulter Visitors Center.

Join Tom Kingsley and John Whitehouse for a restful time indoors. Kingsley will describe the adventures involved in building a new home or tales from his trip to Europe last spring, and Whitehouse will discuss the history of the Sanctuary.

There will be minimal heat so please dress warmly. Equipment can be rented from Northeast Sports in Honesdale.

The cost for the day’s activities is $10 for non-members; $7 for members; and $3 for children 12 and younger. Individual memberships cost $25 for 2005 and family memberships cost $35.
