MARCIA ELIZABETH (RAYMANYIAK) BEM
GREELEY, PA Marcia Elizabeth (Raymanyiak) Bem, a resident of Greeley, died on December 27, 2004 at the Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. She was 71.
The daughter of the late Michael Raymanyiak, she was born in Hackensack, NJ.
She worked as a housekeeper at Caesars Cove Haven Resort for 23 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart RC Church in Greeley.
She is survived by her husband, Edward John Bern, at home; a son, John of Greeley; two daughters, Tracy Novakowski of Greeley and Susan Clinton of Baptistown, NJ; and three grandchildren.
A memorial mass was held on December 30 at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.
FLORENCE E. (SARTORIE) CALLAGHAN
HAWLEY, PA Florence E. (Sartorie) Callaghan, a lifelong resident of Hawley, died at home on January 1, 2005. She was 88.
The daughter of the late Felix and Mary Nino Sartori, she was born in Hawley.
She was a graduate of Hawley High School and Westchester State Teachers College. She also attended East Strousburg State Teachers College. She worked as a fourth grade elementary school teacher for Hawley and Wallenpaupack schools until retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Queen of Peace RC Church and the churchs prayer group as well as a lifelong bowler.
She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Daniel A. Callaghan.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Daniel A. Callaghan, Jr. of Mountaintop, PA; her sister, Ellen J. McGinnis of Hawley; four grandchildren, Sean, Patrick, Evan and Daniella; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Wednesday, January 5 at the Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church with Reverend William B. Healey, pastor, officiating.
Interment was at the Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hawley.

RICHARD A. DUTTON
BINGHAMTON, NY Richard A. Dutton, a resident of Binghamton and a former resident of Tyler Hill, PA, died on Saturday, January 1, 2005 at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton. He was 77.
The son of the late Archer and Josephine Tegeler Dutton, he was born November 20, 1927 in Tyler Hill.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII, he was a retired maintenance worker for Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton, NJ.
He is survived by two sisters, Beulah Breden of Pomona, NY and Rhonda Dewey of Hawley, PA; and one brother, Gerald A. Dutton of Tyler Hill.
He was predeceased by his brother, Arnold E. Dutton in 1996 and his sister, Genevieve Dutton in 1997.
Friends called on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg, NY.
Funeral services followed with Reverend Gerald L. Dutton officiating.
Interment was in Hillside Cemetery in Damascus, PA.

MARGARET (CONLIN) GNECCO
LAKEVILLE, PA Margaret (Conlin) Gnecco, a resident of Lakeville and a former resident of Jersey City, NJ, died at home on January 1, 2005. She was 76.
The daughter of Margaret E. Kennedy Conlin and the late Michael J. Conlin, she was born in Jersey City, NJ.
She retired after many years of customer service for Caesars Cove Haven Resort. She was a member of the Queen of Peace RC Church in Hawley, a member of the Alter and Rosary Society. She served with the Ritz Company Playhouse for a number of years.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Arthur J. Gnecco and her brother, Patrick John Conlin.
She is survived by her mother, Margaret of Jersey City, NJ; her brothers, Michael of Union Beach, NJ, John of Cateret, NJ and Edward of Keansburg, NJ; her sisters, Madeline Brignola of Toms River, NJ, and Patricia Ann Edmondson of Hawley; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held on January 4 at the Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley with Reverend William B. Healey, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at the Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hawley.

WILLIAM G. NOBLE, SR
HAWLEY, PA William G. Noble, Sr., a resident of Hawley and a former resident of Greentown, PA and St. Charles, MO, died on December 25, 2004 at St. Marys Villa in Elmhurst, PA. He was 85.
The son of the late Amos and Bertha Miller Noble, he was born in Easton, PA.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in the Pacific during World War II. He worked as a railroad train designer for the American Car and Foundry industries until retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in St. Charles, MO.
He is survived by his sons, Barry of Bartonsville and Shawn of Hamlin; his daughters, JoAnn Noble of Florida and Lori Noble of Hawley; his stepdaughters, Pam Gipson of Missouri, Cindy Weidner of Philipsburg, NJ, and Christie McDonald of Hawley; his stepsons, Fritz Litzenberger and Glen Rice of Paupack, both of Paupack; John Rice of Honesdale; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three sons, William Jr., Butch and Bruce.
Services were held on December 30 at the Paupack United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert B. Kolvik-Campbell, pastor, officiating.
GEORGE STANTON
HONESDALE, PA George Welles Stanton, a resident of Honesdale, died Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the Wilkes-Barre VA Hospital following an illness. He was 81.
The son of the late Roy V. and Mabel Lowry Stanton, he was born on February 26, 1923 in Honesdale.
He graduated from Honesdale High School in 1941, where he was a member of the basketball and tumbling teams and from Wayne Commercial School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific during WWII where he participated in the invasion and occupation of Japan at Nagasaki. He graduated from Bucknell University in 1950. While in college he was captain of the wrestling team from 1948 to 1950 and received the award for outstanding senior wrestler. He was also a member of the marching band for three years, president of Theta Chi social fraternity, a member of the B Club, a board member of the University Christian Association and the editor of the Challenge.
After graduation, Stanton taught business subjects at Wayne Commercial School in Honesdale for 25 years. In 1950 he opened Stanton Office Equipment where he attained the classification of Outstanding Sales Performance for the Royal Typewriter Co. and Victor Adding Machine Corp., Chicago. He was selected as boss of the year by the Honesdale Jaycees in 1988 and business person of the year by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce in 1992.Stanton Office Equipment is currently in its 54th year of business.
He was a member and past master of the Free and Accepted Masons, Honesdale Lodge No. 218, he served on the Finance and Zoning Committees for Honesdale Borough Council, on the Honesdale Borough Recreation Advisory Board, Honesdale Booster Club, Honesdale Pool Development Committee and the Honesdale Terrace Street Outdoor Recreation Committee. He was a president and chairman for the Wayne County Unit of the American Cancer Society, board and chairman of the NEPA five-county Cancer Crusade, president and director of Elk Lake Development Co. and Wayne Industrial Development Company, chairman of Wayne County Farm Week, and committeeman for Boy Scout Troop 1. He was a former president of the Honesdale Jaycees and Protection Engine Company No. 3. He was a member of the Wayne-Pike Detachment, Marine Corps League and served as Sr. Vice Commandant and Judge Advocate. In 1992 he received the Wayne Pike Detachment Certificate of Outstanding Service. He and his wife were co-recipients of the Bnai Brith Citizenship Citation in 1974.
He helped start the wrestling program at Honesdale High School where he served as coach for varsity and junior varsity and received the Presidents Award for promoting the sport. He was a member of the Honesdale Golf Club.
He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Pratt.
He is survived by his wife, Sally B. Stanton of Honesdale; his sons, David M. and his wife Holly and Fredrick G and his wife Julie; a brother, Robert of Lewisburg; six granddaughters, Kara, Paige, Andrea, Elyssa, Haley and Camille; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held on December 18 at the Bethany United Methodist Church with Reverend Dale Pepper and Reverend Jan Tiebert officiating.
Interment was at the Canann Corners Cemetery in Waymart.

FLORIAN SURGE
HAWLEY, PA - Florian Surge, an 18-year resident of Hawley and a former resident of Glendale, NY, died on December 27, 2004 at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 89.
The son of the late Franz and Louise Surge, he was born in Nieder Mosel, Gottschee, Austria.
He worked as a machinist for Armor Elevator Co. in Woodside, NY until he retired in 1980. He was a member of Queen of Peach RC Church in Hawley.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ema (Stimitz) Surge; his sons, Walter and his wife Elaine of Deer Park, NY, and Karl and his wife Lili of Glendale, NY; his sisters, Albina Winding of Austria and Irma Letholtz of Las Vegas, NV; his grandchildren, Donna, Debbie, Karl and Carolina; and his great grandchildren, Jesse and Sierra.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Irene and a son, Richard.
Services were held on January 3 at the Sacred Heart Roman Church in Glendale.
Interment will be at the Cypress Hills Cemetery in Glendale.
