Lunch special on the Upper Delaware

LACKAWAXEN, PA — A healthy population of bald eagles migrates from Canada to the Upper Delaware region every winter, and in recent years, the number of pairs breeding locally has increased. This is due in part to the aggressive reintroduction program, habitat protection and other management actions.

Peter Nye, leader of the New York Department of Environmental Conservation Endangered Species Unit, will conduct a mid-winter survey on Monday, January 10. Nye will be counting eagles throughout the state, including within the Upper Delaware corridor, from a helicopter.

EagleFest and other current events will present ample opportunities to view wintering and resident eagles in the Upper Delaware River Valley. For more on EagleFest, see this week's Leisure Section.
