RR changes operators again
And another move is being considered

WASHINGTON, DC The Central New York Railroad (CNYR) Corporation has signed a $1 a year, 20-year lease, ostensibly to operate a freight line on the Norfolk-Southerns Southern Tier Line between Port Jervis and Binghamton.
But lease documents submitted to the federal Surface Transportation Board indicate that CNYR President Gerard McKenna wants to convey the line to a government entity to obtain a property tax abatement. The Norfolk-Southern lease document stipulates that both rail companies will entertain the conveyance, should it be deemed in the best interests of both. Norfolk-Southern would retain a lease-back agreement for track rights as the property owner, after any conveyance.

Sullivan and Albany to exchange casino views

MONTICELLO, NY The Sullivan County Legislature will be hosting Governor Patakis casino counsel and listening to a variety of opinions on Friday, January 7.
Greg Allen will sit in on an 11:00 a.m. session of the Legislatures Executive Committee, which will be followed by pro and con statements for and against casino gaming in the county, Legislative Chair Chris Cunningham said on Monday.

Who gets the hotel tax money?

MATAMORAS, PA Pike County business people heard a call for secession from the Poconos when they gathered on December 29 to learn about a proposed hotel occupancy tax.
Milford publisher and hotel owner Sean Strub organized and hosted the session at the Hunts Landing Best Western Hotel.
