Gusty winds fell tree

Lake Huntington homeowner Peter Toscano is pictured in his yard during the Sunday cleanup effort of a large branch from a 70-year-old pine tree, left, that fell onto the roof of his home during high winds early that morning.

No one was injured, but the massive limb punched several holes, allowing rain to pour in and causing structural damage to the roof. A cherry picker was required to remove the limb.

The retired owner of Pete’s Pub said he was awakened by a loud thud at about 3:30 a.m. “I thought my wife had fallen out of bed,” he said.

Toscano said this was the second time part of the tree had fallen on the house. About 15 years ago another large branch fell and crushed a rear deck. “This time, I’m having it cut down,” he said.
