Buckle up and get there safely for the holidays

Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies, pictured at a November 26 highway safety check on Route 17B in White Lake, were taking part in the state’s heightened enforcement of seat-belt laws, which will continue throughout the holiday season.

Figures were not available for the past week’s holiday travel at press time, but last year six people died in New York State accidents during the Thanksgiving travel period.

Pennsylvania State Police reported that 13 people died in 2004 Thanksgiving period in traffic accidents that they investigated, down from 19 in 2003.
