Child injured in home accident

ELDRED, NY — State police said a three-year-old Town of Highland girl suffered lacerations to both legs in a noontime accident on November 11.

The accident occurred at the Bruce and Wendy Worzel home on County Road 47, where Mrs. Worzel was looking after Elizabeth and two other children, ages four and five.

The three-year-old was injured when she crept behind a riding lawn mower Mrs. Worzel was using to clear fallen leaves. The child’s feet were struck when the machine was reversed.

Yulan firefighters and Eldred American Legion Ambulance volunteers responded to the 12:40 p.m. accident.

Firefighters set up an emergency landing area at Eldred Central School, where a Life Flight helicopter landed and evacuated Elizabeth to the Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, PA.

State police said no charges would be filed as a result of the incident.
