Special election coverage
The 2004 presidential election has been called the most consequential election in decades.
In addition to printing statements from candidates running for local offices, The River Reporter set out this week to provide pre-election coverage of the 2004 presidential vote in our region. Points of focus include issues facing Wayne and Pike Counties in Pennsylvania, the battleground state of the northeast in 2004, the religion factor in our rural counties, the youth vote and the day at the polls on November 2.

Pike business park is a done deal

MILFORD, PAAfter nearly a decade of financial, zoning, environmental and legal entanglement, the Pike County Commissioners signed documents last week, indemnifying Blooming Grove Township against sewage treatment liability and thus putting the final stamp on development of the countys business park.

Opponents press legislature to abandon casions

MONTICELLO, NYAnti-casino forces continued their lobbying efforts before the Sullivan County Legislature last week when Casino-Free Sullivan County presented the lawmakers with some 3,000 new petition signatures asking that since a referendum was not possible, the panel void two existing contracts with tribes seeking to develop casinos.
