CLYDE ASHCRAFT

DENVER, CO — Clyde Ashcraft, a resident of Denver, CO, died unexpectedly on August 6, 2004. He was 47 years old.

The son of Joanne E. Tanner and the late C.B. Ashcraft, he was born in San Antonio, TX.

He worked as a carpenter.

Survivors include his mother, Joanne Edward of San Fernando, CA; his daughter, Colien Ashcraft of Hawley, PA; and his former wife Elona Compton of Hawley.

A memorial service was held on October 2 at Teeters’ East Chapel with Rev. Martin L. Cox, Jr., Pastor of Hawley United Methodist Church, officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen in Scranton.


ANNETTE “ANN” CLEMENTE

WELCOME LAKE, PA — Annette Clemente, a resident of Forest Hills, NY and Welcome Lake, PA, died on September 27, 2004 at the age of 84.

She was born on September 21, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph and Lillian Amato.

She was preceded in death by sister, Josephine Malazzo.

Four days prior to her death, her husband of 57 years, Leonard J. Clemente, passed on.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph of the Bronx, NY and local attorney, Jeffrey P. and his wife, Frances; a grandson, Matthew Clemente; a granddaughter, Felicia Adair; two great grandsons, Quinlan and Colin Adair; one brother, Peter Amato; and four sisters, Mary Pugliese, Lillian Kehler, Louise Cammarata, and Vera Mohie.

She was a homemaker and a retired NYC Health and Human Services caseworker.

She is buried at Calkins Union Cemetery in Calkins, PA.


LEONARD J. CLEMENTE

WELCOME LAKE, PA — Leonard J. Clemente, a resident of Forest Hills, NY and Welcome Lake, died September 23, 2004 at the age of 86.

Born August 1, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph and Margaret Clemente, he was preceded in death by a brother Gaspar Clemente.

Four days after his death, his wife of 57 years, Annette Clemente, died.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph of the Bronx, NY, and local attorney, Jeffrey and his wife, Frances of Beach Lake; a grandson, Matthew Clemente; a granddaughter, Felicia Adair; two great grandchildren, Colin and Quinlan Adair; and four sisters, Rose Rigglo, Mary Mandela, Gennie Genco and Anna Caleca.

He was a retired sales manager of Sears and Roebuck and in his retirement, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science from Queens College of the City University of NY.

He is buried at Calkins Union Cemetery in Calkins, PA.


REGINA B. “ JEAN” DOBRZYNSKI

HAWLEY, PA — Regina B. “Jean” Dorbreznski, a 24-year resident of Hawley and a former resident of South Amboy, NJ, died on September 26, 2004 in Carbondale, PA. She was 86 years old.

The wife of the late Theodore J. Dobrzynski for 56 years, she was born in South Amboy, NJ.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Sacred Heart RC Church in South Amboy, NJ.

Survivors include a daughter Joan and son-in-law Joseph Kudrick of Hawley; Peter Dobrzynski of Old Bridge, NJ; a sister Jennie Garaffa of Winter Springs, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

A private service is planned.


FRED T. FURINO

MONTICELLO, NY — Fred T. Furino, a longtime resident of Monticello, NY died September 25, 2004, at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. He was 74.

Born on January 17, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Frances Catpano Furino.

He was a watch case maker for D. & A. Watchcase and a truck driver for Branch Motor Express. He was a member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church and the Major Marie Rossi Lodge #2686 Order of Sons of Italy in America.

He is survived by longtime companion Frances Grabeck; a brother, Salvatore and wife Mary Ann of Staten Island; two sisters, Madeline Bonanza and Frank of Lake Huntington, and Nancy Pirello and Gasper of Woodside; a cousin Anthony Calia and wife Leona of Staten Island; a great niece, Elizabeth Calia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Louis Furino, and three sisters, Julia Rottuno, Annie Furino, and Millie Heinrich.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on September 29 in St. Peters Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Ginel as celebrant.

A cremation will be at the convenience of the family at Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh. Interment of Ashes will be in Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn at a later date.

DOROTHY F. HUFF

MATAMORAS, PA — Dorothy F. Huff, a resident of Matamoras PA, died on Thursday, September 30, 2004, at the Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. She was 88.

The daughter of the late Mary Collins and Louis M. Gordon, she was born in Ogdensburg, NJ on June 24, 1916.

She was a retired schoolteacher for the Port Jervis school system. She was a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association, vice chairwoman of the Erie Depot Society, an active member of the Presbyterian Players of the first Presbyterian Church and a member of the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. She worked toward making the Erie Caboose a historical treasure to be enjoyed on Jersey Avenue in Port Jervis.

Her husband Francis V. Huff predeceased her.

Survivors include her two daughters, Marilyn Meyers and her fiancé, Casimir Krol of Matamoras and Carol Kraeft of Greeley; a grandson, James C. Smith; a great- granddaughter, Brianna Phoenix, and several nieces and nephews.

A private service was held October 2. She is buried in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Long Eddy.

LILIAN D. JAYCOX

GIG HARBOR, WA — Lilian D. Jaycox, a resident of Gig Harbor, WA, died at her home on September 24, 2004. She was 98.

The daughter of Wilhelmina E. Schiedel and William H. Jaycox, she was born in Narrowsburg, NY on September 17, 1906.

She was predeceased by her husband Loren R. Jaycox in 1986; by her brother, Alfred Tyler; and by three sisters, Wilhelmina Blakelock, Pauline Glackin, and Louise Knecht.

She is survived by her sister Emily C. LaBarr of Sussex, NJ; four nieces, Emily Hallock and Dorothy Foster of Narrowsburg, and Joyce Fitzpatrick and Marilyn Man of WA; and a nephew, Francis Knecht of Narrowsburg.

DORIS J. LATOURNOUS

WHITE MILLS, PA — Doris J. Wizard LaTournos, a resident of White Mills, PA died on September 28, 2004 at the Julia Ribaudo Home in Lake Ariel. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene “Gallagher” LaTournous, who died on January 28, 1988.

She was the daughter and last surviving member of the John and Emma Spry Wizard family. She was born on May 22, 1912 in Honesdale, PA.

A graduate of Honesdale High School, she worked for local businesses prior to her marriage and motherhood. She helped her husband run a catering business. She was an active member of the community and the White Mills Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Doris is survived by a son, Thomas and his wife, Nancy Barna LaTournous of Lake Ariel; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Jane McCormick of Newfoundland; two granddaughters, Kelsey and Karla McCormick; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Arnold, and a sister, Harriet.

Private funeral services will be held at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale at the family’s convenience.

ALBERT ROLAND NEARING

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Albert Roland “Rollie” Nearing, a lifelong resident of Lake Huntington, NY, died in his home on October 4. He was 88.

The son of the late Theodore (Doc) Walter Nearing and Emma May Kirchoeffer, he was born in Lake Huntington on November 13, 1915. He was married for 54 years to the late Lynette Gregor who died on in 1995.

He was a member of the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church and a 50-year member of the Lake Huntington Fire Department.

Survivors include one son, Roland of Williamson, NY; one daughter, Joan Long of Hallstead, PA; one sister, Alma Bischoff of Lake Huntington; one sister-in-law, Marie Van Orden of Honesdale, PA; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Millard Theodore, Harry, Percy Walter, Carl Vernon and Robert Arthur; and seven sisters, Gladys E., Elise, Cora, Lillian, Ruth M., Edith Rose, and Emma.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, October 8 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg.

ANNA NEARING

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Anna Nearing, a resident of Lake Huntington, NY where she has resided for 65 years, died September 27, 2004. She was 90.

Born on July 23, 1914 in New York City, she was the daughter of Magdalina and Michael Granya of New York City. When she was a child, both of her parents passed away suddenly, leaving her and her younger sister Mildred as orphans. Magdalina’s younger sister, Eva Pachin was able to gain custody of the two girls. She and her husband, Charles Epst, brought the girls to Damascus, PA, where they lived as farmers.

She is survived by her two sons, Jack of Greenwich CT and Donald of Palm Harbor, FL; six grandchildren, Peggy Winseki, Patricia Alenzi, Dwight, Carl, Scott, and Ryan Nearing; six great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Kristy Wisneski, Dana Jenna, Saul Alenzi, and Victoria Nearing; and one great-grandchild, Nathaniel Wisneski.

She is predeceased by her sister, Mildred.

A viewing was held at Rasmussen’s Funeral Home in Narrowsburg, NY, on October 1. Funeral services took place on October 2.
