POND EDDY, NY — Three Lumberland area teenage boys were injured Friday evening when the driver of the car they were riding in lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree on the steep section of County Road 41 in Pond Eddy.

Lumberland Supervisor John LiGreci said town constables determined that driver Daniel Riegano, 19, of Chester and four unidentified boys from Lumberland were eastbound on County 41 shortly after 7:30 p.m. when Riegano lost control on the hill and struck a tree.

Reigano and one of his passengers were uninjured. Two other suffered moderate injures, one with facial cuts and a broken nose, the other with possible broken wrist. They were treated and released at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis.

The fourth passenger, who suffered rib injuries, was reported to be at the hospital’s intensive care unit on Monday.

LiGreci said Riegano was ticketed for Speed Unreasonable, Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance, and Disobeying a Traffic Law.

He is scheduled to appear in Lumberland Town Court on October 12.

Highland Constables and the Eldred American Legion Ambulance Service assisted Lumberland constables, firefighters and ambulance personnel at the scene.
