Nextel seeking Lackawaxen tower okay

Nextel project consultant Lawrence Lahr pled his case before the Lackawaxen Township Supervisors for a conditional zoning permit that would allow construction of a 300-foot tall communications tower on land leased from Woodloch Pines.

Solicitor Jay Rose saw some setback and height issues that would require a zoning variance, but Supervisors’ Chair Brian Stuart told Lahr that he did not want him to go away feeling the township was opposed. “We recognize the need,” he said.

Speculators have come and gone with past projects but Stuart noted that none have yet been built.

Lahr said Nextel is prepared to build and equip the tower as soon as approvals are completed. The company has another tower in Honesdale and plans a third in the Hawley area, he said.

Lahr said the project represents an investment of up to $250,000 for Nextel.
