Stars brought down to earth

LAKE WALLENPAUPACK, PA — Lacawac Sanctuary will host a stargazing party on Saturday September 18 at 8:00 p.m. The evening will begin with a slide show by the Lackawanna Astronomical Society, presenting astronomy as a hobby and explaining what can be viewed this time of year.

Then, weather permitting, several telescopes will be set up to view galaxies, star clusters, double stars, nebulae and other wonders of the night sky. Participants will receive a star map and instructions on how to use it. Donations of $2 for members and $5 for non-members are requested. Children under 12 will be admitted free. Lacawac Sanctuary is a 520-acre nature preserve and historic site offering environmental and historical programs, hiking trails and a native plant garden. Lacawac offers tours of its historic buildings and glacial lake on Wednesdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. through the end of September.
