Conference to address dark sides of being human

By TOM KANE

HONESDALE, PA — Several dozen world-class speakers will address the fears and anxieties that constitute the fabric of human life during the Himalayan Institute’s special conference, “Sacred Link™ - Freedom from Fear,” which will be held from September 16 to 19 at the Institute’s headquarters on Route 670.

The conference will be devoted to enhancing personal growth through yoga and yoga philosophy and supporting healthier living through holistic approaches to today’s health regimen.

“Freedom from Fear” will be the prototype for a larger conference scheduled for 2007 that is expected to draw 10,000 visitors to Honesdale from all over the world.

“Sacred Link™” refers to the shared, sacred bond that links all human beings, explained Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Spiritual Head of the Himalayan Institute.

“Fear arises when we experience ourselves as lonely, alienated, isolated beings competing for survival in a hostile world,” Pandit Tigunait said. “When we feel this way, we react to other people and situations out of fear, pain and anger.”

Foreign diplomats, including the Iranian Ambassador to the U.N. and the Indian Ambassador-at-Large to the worldwide Indian community, will highlight the necessity for nurturing a healthier humanity that respects different peoples, cultures and civilizations.

In addition to yoga practice, numerous speakers will focus on the connection between mind and body as a way to impact health. Others will discuss Ayurvedic medicine.

The overall objective of the conference is to increase understanding of people from other nations, cultures and civilizations.
