Festival bears on the town

MILFORD, PA — Those famous Black Bear Film Festival bears, including one on stilts, will take over Milford again this year, starting with their unveiling on Saturday, August 7, at 11:00 a.m. at The Old Lumberyard on Seventh Street. Some of the themes include a Picasso bear, a bear made of broken records, a guitar-playing bear, a Napoleon bear and a motorcycle biker bear.

This is the fifth year that the Painted Bears will appear at the independent film festival to be held October 15 to 17. Get a bear location map at the unveiling, at the festival office at the Upper Mill or from blackbearfilm.com. After being displayed around Milford for nearly three months, each bear will be auctioned to the highest bidder at the end of the festival.

New participants include groups from the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC), the experimental North American Cultural Laboratory (NaCl) theatre, as well as elementary students from the Delaware Valley Elementary School.

To become a festival sponsor call 570/409-0909. Volunteers are needed. Come to a meeting on Saturday at 12:00 noon, upstairs at the Milford Borough Hall on W. Catharine Street. Those who cannot attend can fill out the form at blackbearfilm.com/sponsors/sponsorsvolunteers.html.
