Shohola takes three to court
By TOM KANE
SHOHOLA, PA Shohola Townships attorney, Edwin Abrahamsen, was given the green light by the township board on July 8 to bring three court actions against township residents.
Residents, Sarah Berry and Donald Lehner, dual owners of a home in the township, have refused to comply with the townships junkyard ordinance as has Everrett McKean, another resident.
The township can not tolerate residents ignoring important laws, Abrahamsen said.
The third court case is against the Trails End Campground located on Route 6, which will not allow the townships zoning officer free access to the campground to make his inspections.
The township has made several attempts to get these residents to comply but with no success, Abrahamsen said. We have no other alternative than to take them to the Pike County Court of Common Pleas.
In other board actions, George Fluhr, chairman of the township board, discussed the confusion centering around the new Uniform Construction Code (UCC).
The interpretation of the new code changes from day to day, Fluhr said. I want to emphasize, however, that the township code applies until the issue of the new code is clarified.
Fluhr reasserted that the townships code does not exempt residences from inspections as some were claiming.
Later in the meeting, a resident of Trails End Campground appeared before the board complaining about restrictions the township has put on permanent construction at the campground.
Trails End is a recreational community, Fluhr said. Trailers are moved in and out on a regular basis. Foundations for buildings should not be erected. Those existing foundations that were legitimate will be allowed.
