Baby’s recovery continues

YULAN, NY — Twenty-two-month-old Aiden Hanley, who received a new heart in May, is continuing his recovery at Ronald McDonald House in New York City.

He’s doing very well, his grandmother Jackie Comfort said on Monday. “He’s got so much energy, that we’re exhausted when we get home from a visit,” she said.

Aiden and his mother, Melanie Mead, have been staying close the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan during his recovery. But if it continues without incident, Comfort said her daughter hopes to bring Aiden home to Yulan on July 4, when friends at the Yulan Country Store will be conducting a raffle drawing for a painting that neighbor Ken Byrne donated to raise funds to offset ongoing expenses for Melanie’s Yulan apartment.

The Knights of Columbus at St. Anthony’s Church, the Town of Highland Lions, the Lumberland Lions and other “have made life a lot easier,” Comfort said.

She said her daughter expressed her thanks to all who donated, and particularly wanted to thank her landlords Sue, Hank and Emily Hoffman; Ken Byrne; Tony LaRuffa of the Knights of Columbus; and donors Barry Fox, James S. Buckley and James R. Buckley.
