Last glimpses of spring sports
And we were there

The sweetest of sports seasons has finally drawn to a close. Bracketed by snowy, wind-driven sleet at its outset and the balmy, euphoric days of summer at its close, the spring sports season enjoys a unique place in the hearts and minds of track team members, baseball and softball players and golfers.
Many of these same kids who spent the last two and a half months running races, shagging fly balls or lining up their shots on the greens began their athletic endeavors this year during the crisp days of fall as cross-country runners and soccer or football players.

Track
Iatauro is state champ in steeplechase

SYRACUSE, NY Tri-Valleys Heather Iatauro captured the Division II 2000 steeplechase for the fourth year in a row. On June 5, Iatauro traversed the course in a time of 6:52.45, giving her second place overall to Division IIs Lindsey Ferguson of Saratoga Springs, who ran the course in 6:45.49. Both girls eclipsed the former state record of 6:53.54. Ferguson is the new state record holder.

Gymnastics
Club caps off a great season

MONTICELLO, NY The Monticello Gymnastics Club wraps up its successful 2003-2004 season with two annual events. On June 1, the gymnasts and their parents along with team coaches Pedro Tweed, Rich Parks, Amanda Tweed and Maria Karkos staged the annual picnic at DeHoyos Park. With food galore and the usual water gun fight ensuing among the gymnasts, all enjoyed the slightly chilly late afternoon festivities.
