EUNICE M. BILLARD

HONESDALE, PA — Eunice M. Billard of Beach Lake died May 29, 2004 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was 99.

She was a resident of the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale.

The daughter of the late Henry and Mary Hourahan Wenders, she was born July 13, 1905 in White Mills.

She graduated from the White Mills High School and East Stroudsburg Teachers College. She taught in the Swamp Brook and Laurella one-room schools. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Church, Beach Lake and was active in the Republican Party.

Her husband, Fred Billard died in 1969. The couple built the Big Apple in 1931 and also owned and operated the Twin Willows Boarding Home, purchased in 1949.

Survivors include a son, Dan and his wife Flo of Narrowsburg, NY; four grandchildren and spouses, Henry and Lyn Ann Martin, Lionel and Kim Billard, Rick and Lisa Landers and John and Brenda Riefler; also first cousin, John and Rota Wenders.

She was predeceased by a brother, Irving Wenders and two sisters, Ellen Brunner and Cecilia Maginsky.

Friends visited on the evening of June 1 at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 2 in St. Bernard’s Church, Beach Lake with the Rev. Santino Fanucci, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Peckville, a former pastor and friend officiating.

Interment was in the Queen of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.


KENNETH DAVIS, SR.

MILANVILLE, PA — Kenneth Davis, Sr., resident of Milanville, PA, died June 3, 2004 at home.

The son of the late Charles W. and Beulah Ott Davis, he was born March 28, 1933 in Milanville.

He attended Damascus schools and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1956, serving in Germany as a radar technician. Following marriage, he was employed by Henderson Trucking until he retired in 1996. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, attending St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s churches.

He was a loving and hardworking husband, father and grandfather enjoying his grandchildren very much. Everyone loved his sense of humor and his courage throughout his cancer.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, the former Angela Weist; three sons, Kenneth Jr. of Milanville, Vincent and his wife Lorraine of Honesdale and Eric of Beach Lake; two daughters, Nancy O’Leary and her husband Scott of Long Eddy, NY and Linda Liptak and her husband Jerry of Beach Lake; grandchildren, Shane Dutton, Dillon, Cassandra, Christopher and Luke Davis; a brother, Joseph and his wife Dottie of Antioch, IL; a sister, Betty Lowe and her husband John of Beach Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Michael and a brother, Edwin.

Friends visited on June 7 at the Hessling Funeral Home, Honesdale, PA.

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial were held on June 8 at the funeral home.

Interment was in Milanville Cemetery.


PETER B. DEVROE

TINTON FALLS, NJ — Peter B. Devroe, a former resident of Kinnelon, NJ and Galilee, PA, died June 2, 2004 at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls, NJ. He was 88.

The son of the late Peter Devroe and Jeanette Mollarus, he was born in Amersfoort, Netherlands.

He was an international banker in finance. He served in the Dutch military forces beginning in 1937. His career in international banking included Netherlands Trading Society in Amsterdam and Dutch Bank in Borneo, Singapore and Saudi Arabia. Following his relocation to the United States, he worked for Bank of America from 1949 to 1963, Netherlands Overseas Bank in New York until 1967 and retired from Celulosa Argentina, SA in New York in 1981.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Suzan (Visser) Devroe at home; three sons, William Peter of Wayne, NJ, Harry James of Haarlem, Holland and Robert Freddy of Charlotte, NC; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.

MILDRED (HUFF) JEZERCAK

WAYMART, PA — Mildred (Huff) Jezercak, 10-year resident of Wayne Woodland Manor who formerly resided in Hawley, PA, died at the facility on June 1, 2004. She was 83.

The daughter of the late Grant and Charlotte Blackmore Huff, she was born in Hawley, PA.

She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, George Jezercak.

She worked as a sewing machine operator.

Survivors include three daughters, MaryAnn Groff of Lake Ariel, PA, Barbara Rankin of Hawley, PA and Beverly Simons of Tafton, PA; two sisters, Dorothy Altermier of Hawley, PA and Betty Friermuth of Beach Lake, PA; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends visited on June 3 at Teeters’ East Chapel, Hawley, PA.

Funeral services were held on June 4 at the chapel.

Interment was in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley, PA.

ROBERT J. MCKEE

MILFORD, PA — Robert J. McKee, of Milford, PA, died May 31, 2004 at Belle Reve Senior Living Center, Milford, PA. He was 92.

The son of the late Francis and Harriet Sutcliffe McKee, he was born October 14, 1911 in Manhattan, NY. He was married to the late Blanche Thomsen McKee June 2,1940.

He retired as director of industrial relations from the A & P Tea Company in 1973 and was an active member of the Shohola and Milford communities. A great speed skater, athlete, storyteller, he was a lover of the Twin Lakes environs and its people. He was a retired Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. He was a member of the Marsch Kellogg American Legion Post #139, Milford, PA; Mt. Laurel VFW Post #139, Milford, PA; and the Catholic War Veterans of the United States of America.

Survivors include his two sons, Robert Jr. of Waterford, CT and Christopher of Manhattan, NY; two grandchildren, Robert and Kyla McKee.

Friends called on June 2 at Stroyan Funeral Home, Milford, PA.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 3 at St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, PA, with the Rev. Gerald Mullally officiating.

Interment was in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Shohola, PA.

SERAPHINA MUDARO

HONESDALE, PA — Seraphina “Sarah” Mudaro, a 20-year resident of Honesdale, died June 5, 2004. She was 83.

The daughter of the late Vito and Frances Puma, she was born October 11, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY. She was predeceased by three brothers, James, Victor and Joseph Puma.

She was an active and devoted area volunteer. She served at Wayne Memorial Hospital, the Red Cross, the Cancer Society and the Chamber of Commerce. Her final and long-term service was to the Wayne County Senior Citizen Center where she leaves behind a host of friends and acquaintances.

Survivors include a daughter, Frances Clemente and her husband Jeffrey and grandson Matthew of Beach Lake, PA; a son, Sam and his wife Eva of Las Vegas, NV; and a son, John of St. Joseph’s Center, Scranton, PA.

A memorial service will be announced in the near future.

JOHN STEPHEN ‘STEVE’ WITZEMAN

HAWLEY, PA — John Stephen “Steve” Witzeman of Hawley, former resident of Rivervale, NJ and Stoney Point, NY, died June 1, 2004 in Hawley following an illness. He was 62.

The son of John L. Witzeman and the late May Harrington, he was born in Manhattan, NY.

He worked as a packaging engineer for Kraft/General Foods and retired in 1996. He graduated from Rutgers University.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Florence R. (DiBerardino) Witzeman at home; three daughters, Donna of Los Angeles, CA, Debra Thorner of Highlands, NJ and Denise Witzeman-Mecionis of New York City; his father, John L. Witzeman of Walden, NY and sister, Charlotte Daily of Walden, NY.
