Carnegie Hall links up with Liberty students

NEW YORK, NY — In January, the Sullivan County BOCES distance learning program assisted Carnegie Hall in continuing its tradition of providing classical music education to fourth through sixth grade students in Sullivan County.

For students in the Liberty Middle School String Orchestra, the event turned into a memory that will last a lifetime. The Liberty students were selected out of hundreds of applicants to perform “Twinkle Variations” at Carnegie Hall on May 27.

More than 1000 students from BOCES, Cornwall, Fallsburg, Liberty, Monticello, Pine Bush, Tri-Valley and Warwick were on hand at Carnegie Hall to listen to Pat Lubin’s students perform. The Liberty Middle School strings students gave two performances. According to BOCES Director of Arts in Education Linda Whynman, “It was an experience of a lifetime. These children will never forget that they performed at Carnegie Hall,” she noted.
