When a chair becomes art
HURLEYVILLE, NY Works of Art chairs, created by Sullivan County art students and art teachers, will be sold at auction on Sunday May 16 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Catskill Art Society. Pamela Moore-Epstein, well-known Sullivan County auctioneer, will once again lead this unique scholarship fundraiser created to benefit area high school senior art majors.
The functional or whimsical chairs have been transformed by paint and other media to reflect styles of famous artists. They can be seen at the Catskill Art Society before the auction. Chairs are tagged with student/artist names, the schools they attend and the artist the work is based on. This year, more than 100 chairs from Livingston Manor, Fallsburg, Liberty, Eldred, Tri-Valley, Roscoe, Monticello and Sullivan BOCES will be auctioned.
