Music students and chamber musicians will combine their talents in a performance on May 15 at Monticello High School.

Chamber music crosses generations

MONTICELLO, NY—In celebration of its 10th anniversary in Sullivan County, musicians from the Weekend of Chamber Music (WCM) and 37 chamber music ensemble music students in grades nine to 12 at Monticello High School will combine their musical energy in a performance on Saturday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s new band room. The school is located at 39 Breakey Avenue.

The musicians, led by Judith Pearce, will perform works by Telemann, Clarke and Rachmaninoff and play some improvisation.

Weekend of Chamber Music is a non-profit organization supported in part by funding from the New York State Council on the Arts.

“Van Helsing” as lifeless as a zombie

It wasn’t supposed to happen this way! “Van Helsing” was supposed to be the movie that kicks off this year’s summer blockbuster season, and it was supposed to be fun, and we were all supposed to love it and hope for a sequel two years from now. Instead, it turns out to be a standard brainless action movie, not a speck of originality to its name.

When a chair becomes art

HURLEYVILLE, NY—“Works of Art” chairs, created by Sullivan County art students and art teachers, will be sold at auction on Sunday May 16 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Catskill Art Society. Pamela Moore-Epstein, well-known Sullivan County auctioneer, will once again lead this unique scholarship fundraiser created to benefit area high school senior art majors.
