Curious boutique to house the hard to find
MILFORD, PA A new boutique is a dream-come-true for a Milford man who moved to New York City from Ecuador when he was only 11.
Proprietor Charles G. Macias opened CGM Curious Goods on Saturday, May 8 in the old blacksmith shop at The Upper Mill at 115 Mill Street.
I helped my uncle in his retail business in New York and I loved it: the personal interaction with people, seeing the delight when someone finds the perfect gift, or something they want for themselves, Macias said.
Macias earned his degree in business and spent more than two decades in the banking business, first in New York and then in Pennsylvania. I fell in love with this little corner of paradise: the mountains, the river, the forests and the friendly people. I knew it was only a matter of time before I moved out of the corporate world and back into something more personal, he said.
Macias plans to stock hard-to-find items for reasonable prices. In addition to handmade alpaca sweaters, he will offer Alpaca gloves and scarves from his native Ecuador. Other items offered for sale include a hand-painted butler to hold a bottle of wine, an Egyptian oil burner, a CD with a selection of Celtic tunes, and imported, one-of-a-kind, hand-blown glass ornaments from Egypt. Other items include fine leather jackets for men and women, leather aprons, knapsacks, baseball caps, wallets and custom designed T-shirts and mens summer shirts.
Macias has even turned artist himself, taking the photos for silk-screened T-shirts that feature local Delaware River Valley scenes and creating a series of ceramic tiles with local floral designs.
CGM Curious Goods will be open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
