PAUL N. DAHLIE

WELLESLEY, MA — Paul N. Dahlie, a resident of Wellesley, MA and the executive director of the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum (CFFCM), died Sunday, March 14, 2004 after a brief illness. He was 63.

He was born and raised in Park Falls, WI and after graduating from the University of Wisconsin started a long career in international banking. During this time, he served as a deck officer aboard a Navy supply ship for a brief stint, returning to banking until retirement.

He was an avid outdoorsman. His pleasing personality, combined with an interest in preserving history and a passion for fly fishing, made him a perfect fit for the position of executive director of the CFFCM in November 1999. With his understanding of the Center’s needs and his dedication to getting the job done, his leadership had brought the Center to a new level with a vision that will continue in years to come.

He was a member of the London Fly Fishers, The Anglers Club of New York and The Fly Casters of Boston.

Paul is survived by his wife Susan; a son, Michael; two daughters, Betsy Goldberger and her husband Gary, and Anne Dahlie; one grandchild, Gordon Goldberger; two sisters, Donna Danielson and Sharon Dahlie; and a brother, James Dahlie.

The Dahlie family has established The Paul Dahlie Youth Fly Fishing Fund at The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum to continue Paul’s efforts in providing education for another generation of fly fishers. Donations will be graciously accepted.


FRANCIS W. “BILL” GRAHAM

PORT JERVIS, NY — Francis W. “Bill” Graham of Matamoras, PA, and a lifetime resident of the area, died April 26, 2004 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY. He was 66.

The son of the late George F. and Julia L. Gray Graham, he was born February 16, 1938 in Middletown, NY.

He retired from Pike County Administration Office, Milford, PA and recently worked for Pike County as a Welcome Center clerk in Matamoras.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Matamoras, PA; the Tri-State D & H Dancers, Middletown; the Break Away Cloggers in Matamoras; the Pike County Republican Club; and the Matamoras Borough Council. He was also active with the Pike County Agricultural Fair where he served as treasurer and the Matamoras Community Fair and the Matamoras Fire Department.

Survivors include brothers, George P. of Matamoras, PA and Thomas A. and his wife Linda of Lackawaxen, PA; sister, Sally Teeple of Unionville, NY; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Julia V. Krause.

Friends called on April 28 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Port Jervis.

Funeral services were held on April 29 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection in St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Matamoras, PA, the Rev. John J. Turi officiating.

Interment was in Milford Cemetery, Milford, PA.

MILDRED LINDHOLM

WARWICK, NY — Mildred Lindholm of Barryville, retired from the Richmond County Savings Bank, Staten Island and a 23-year resident of the area, died April 27, 2004 at Schervier Pavilion, Warwick, NY. She was 94.

The daughter of the late Olaf Bernard and Elizabeth Vessberg Dahlberg, she was born January 28, 1910 in Staten Island, NY. She was the widow of the late Alfred H. Lindholm who died March 29, 1972.

She was a member of the Yulan Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and former member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Staten Island.

Survivors include a son, Ronald A. and his wife Pat of Barryville; three grandchildren, Ronald E. of Rock Hill, Kristian of Queens and Beth Schaeffer of Hewitt, NJ; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Montoza Cemetery, Eldred, NY.

LORRAINE M. (LEDDY) LUTENBERGER

MILFORD, PA — Lorraine M. (Leddy) Luttenberger, a 25-year resident of Hawley who formerly resided in Pearl River, NJ, died April 30, 2004 at Belle Reve Senior Living Center, Milford, PA. She was 76.

The daughter of the late Howard and Margaret Day Leddy, she was born in Brooklyn, NY.

She was a former gift shop clerk at Woodloch Pines Resort, Hawley, PA.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, William Luttenberger, at home; three daughters, Lynn A. Ool of Middletown, NY, Jill M. Zeiser of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Nan M. Falkowski of Hawley; grandsons, Kevin and Ryan Ool, and Keith and Douglas Knapp; an uncle, Joseph Day of Farmingville, NY; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Friends called on May 4 at Teeters’ East Chapel, Hawley.

Funeral services were held on May 5 at Queen of Peace R.C. Church, the Rev. William B. Healy, officiating.

Interment was in Calverton National Cemetery, Long Island, NY.


KATHRYN S. MCGEE

NEW BRITAIN, CT — Kathryn S. McGee of Kensington, CT and a former resident of Twin Lakes, Shohola, PA died April 28, 2004 at New Britain General Hospital. She was 75.

The daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Seidi Sturm, she was born August 15, 1928 in New Britain, CT. She was the widow of George J. McGee.

She was a retired research biologist and a member of St. Paul’s R.C. Church of Kensington and the Rosary Guild, a former member of St. Ann’s R.C. Church, Shohola, PA and an alumnus of Albertus Magnus College, New Haven, CT.

Survivors include three sons, George Patrick of Las Vegas, NV, Timothy John and his wife Suzanne of Philadelphia, PA, Daniel A. of Tampa, FL; three daughters, Mary Ellen Sutherland and her husband Norman of Highland Lake, Patricia Masterson and her husband Steven of Harrisburg, PA, Eugenia Skellenger and her husband Douglas of Milford, PA; a sister, Margaret Bishop and her husband Robert of Kensington, CT; and 13 grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen H. McGee.

Funeral services were held on May 1 with a Mass of the Resurrection in St. Ann’s R.C. Church, the Rev. Thomas Petro officiating.

BERTHA M. MILK

CALLICOON, NY — Bertha M. Milk, a lifetime area resident and a retired teacher for Delaware Valley in Callicoon, NY, died April 30, 2004 at home. She was 93.

The daughter of the late Edward and Amanda Engert McGuire, she was born August 2, 1910 in Callicoon, NY.

She was a member of the Holy Cross Church, Callicoon; Callicoon and Jeffersonville Senior Citizens; Sullivan County Retired Teachers; New York State Retired Teachers; and Catholic Daughters of America Court Father Rafael Chapter, Callicoon.

Survivors include three sisters, Agnes Spielmann of Youngsville, NY, Florence Bauer of Callicoon and Dorothy Gottschalk of Hankins, NY as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends called on May 3 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon, NY.

Funeral services were held on May 4 at Holy Cross Church, Callicoon, NY, Father Ignatius Smith OFM, officiating.

Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Callicoon, NY.

PHILLIP HOWARD NOLAN

BAKERSFIELD, CA — Phillip Howard Nolan, former resident of Damascus, PA, died April 27, 2004 in Bakersfield, CA. He was 64.

He was born May 31, 1939.

He was the widower of Nancy Balle Nolan.

Survivors include a son, Patrick and grandson, Ryan of Bakersfield, CA and Cecelia Balle of Narrowsburg, and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation was private at the convenience of the family.


CARMEN D. “CARRIE” VANNATTA

NARROWSBURG, NY — Carmen D. “Carrie” Vannatta, a longtime resident of the area, died April 30, 2004 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Grover Herman Division. She was 80.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luis Callico, she was born February 24, 1924 in Caracas, Venezuela.

She was a retired nurse for Grover Herman Hospital, Callicoon, NY and an associate of the Corp of Cadet Nurses during World War II. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Narrowsburg, the Tusten-Cochecton Library and the Saint Tamany Chapter OES in Callicoon.

Survivors include her husband, Orvis Vannata, at home; two sons, John of Leonardtown, MD and Louis of Ashburn, VA; one daughter, Sue Ellen Franklin of Plano, TX; two sisters, Delores Haraka of Freeport, Long Island and Roberta Baldwin of Cocoa Beach, FL; two grandchildren and one niece.

A memorial service was held on May 3 at Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY, the Rev. Steve Knutsen, officiating.

Cremation took place at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.

ELISE ALMA WOOD

ST. JAMES CITY, FL — Elise Alma Wood of St. James City, FL, a retired secretary for Mike Preis Inc. and a longtime resident of Narrowsburg, died Friday, April 30, 2004 at home in Florida. She was 88.

The daughter of John Henry and Flora Belle Meyer Ropke, she was born on August 28, 1915 in Lava, NY.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Honesdale, PA; St. Tamany’s Chapter OES, Callicoon, NY; the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, Narrowsburg; the Tusten Senior Citizens and the Pine Island Art Association. She wrote for 25 years as Thusnelda in The River Reporter. She taught art classes to the Tusten Senior Citizens group in Narrowsburg and she attended the Pine Island Writers Group, taking art instruction from the Pine Island Art Association.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, who died in 1991. Survivors include her daugher, Elise (Noni) Wood Edwards and her husband Gary, along with her granddaughter, Reanna Edwards, all of St. James City, FL; one step-grandson, Gary Bryin and his wife Lisa of Forty Fort, PA; one step-granddaughter, Holly and her husband Greg of Troop, PA; three step-great grandchildren, Halley, Tyler and Matthew; one sister-in-law, Virginia Searles; and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in Lava Cemetery, Narrowsburg.
