Read ‘em and weep

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — Seventh graders Sarah Blanton, Kelsey Ritz, Kasi Pilny, Kellee Thelman and Molly Stabile won first place honors in this year’s Battle of the Books competition, held at the Sullivan West Junior High School campus for students in grades six through eight on April 27.

A voluntary incentive program, Battle of the Books requires students to work in teams to read books from an official list and answer textual questions during a friendly competition.

“We had a tremendous response from the students,” said Michelle Musetti, the school’s library media specialist. “It is the first year that the competition was offered to the students at the new junior high school. We had 79 students sign up for the competition, a great number for a school our size.”

The winners each received a $50 savings bond donated by the First National Bank of Jeffersonville.
