Unique cheese operation born in Sullivan

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY—Rick Bishop said necessity gave birth to invention in a combined effort to create a modular cheese-making factory that has brought new economic opportunities for local dairy farmers and sparked the interest of dairy concerns around the region.

Bishop, the agricultural economic development specialist with the Sullivan County Planning Department, was talking about a barn-red, 12-by-36-foot trailer, packed with custom-made equipment for the production of farm-made cheese.

“We pretty much built it ourselves,” Bishop said, because this was not a trailer to be selected from a catalog and ordered.

Bonacic holds concept meeting

NARROWSBURG, NY —“It’s totally up to you what the greenway would be—or not be if you don’t want it. It’s your home you’d be building,” Senator John Bonacic repeatedly told a group of town officials, Upper Delaware Council (UDC) representatives and interested residents gathered at an informational meeting on a possible New York State designation of the Upper Delaware River Valley as a state greenway.

Will local control hurt MH/MR services?

HONESDALE, PA—The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is in the middle of reviewing Wayne County’s proposal to separate from the mental health/mental retardation (MH/MR) services joinder that ties three counties. Many fear the transfer of control is impossible without diminishing the quality of behavioral health services.
