Lander’s River Café opens

CALLICOON, NY — A new café attached to Lander’s Convenience Store and Shell Gas Station has opened this week called Lander’s River Café.

A year in the making, the 95-seat café will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. It will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week.

“Breakfast will be served all day long for anyone who wants it,” said Walt Sipple, the supervising contractor for the construction.

Michael Chojnicki of The Beechwoods was the architect.

“We have 11 booths, 11 seats at the counter and the rest of the tables seat four,” Sipple said. A 20-person-capacity room at the rear will be available for private parties.

The restaurant is functioning with a temporary certificate of occupancy (CO) because a sign was placed in a spot other than the one approved by the town planning board.

“We’ve re-applied for a permit and will go through the process all over again,” Lander said.

Two other restaurants just recently opened in the hamlet—Michael’s on Main and 27 Main Street Pizzeria and Restaurant.

“Competition is good for a town,” Lander said.
