ROBERT F. BROOKS
JEFFERSONVILLE, NY – Robert F. Brooks died at his home
November 2, 2003. He was 67.
The son of the late William and Helen Howard Brooks, he was
born May 16, 1936 in Garnerville.
A graduate of Haverstraw High School, he retired in 1997
from the Haverstraw Highway Department. He was an exempt member of the S.W.
Johnson S.F.E. Company #1 and one of the first members of the David B. Roche
Fire Company in Thiells. He had a passion for trucks,cars and racing.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Virginia Brooks, at
home; three children, Alene Ann Ritz of Lake Huntington, Robert Brooks of
Lansing, MI, and Clifford Brooks of Thiells; two sisters, Ruth Thiell and Helen
Cusano; three brothers, Howard Brooks and Richard Brooks, both of Garnerville,
and William Brooks of Florida; and seven grandchildren and a great
granddaughter.

CAROL LOUISE (NELSON) GOODWIN
HAWLEY, PA—Carol Louise (Nelson) Goodwin died October 29,
2003 at home. She was 62.
The daughter of the late William Nelson and the late Isabell
Merkins Nelson, she was born in Buffalo, NY.
She was a reservations manager of the Pine Crest Yacht Club
and belonged to the Unitarian Church of Buffalo.
Survivors include one son, Michael Goodwin of Hawley and a
brother, Edwin Skip Nelson of Kingston, Ontario.
Graveside services were held at Green Lawn Cemetery in North
Wales, PA. Interment was in Green Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be

VERNA S. (SINGER) KIMBLE
HAWLEY, PA – Verna S. (Singer) Kimble died November 5, 2003,
at home. She was 83.
The daughter of the late Harry O. and Luella Crandall
Singer, she was born in Ederton, WI.
She was a member of the Hawley High School Class of 1938,
attended Wayne Commercial School, was a retired proofreader at The News Eagle,
Hawley, and was a former member of the Hawley Planning Commission. She
performed with her sister Edna Locklin as a singing duet on local radio
stations in Binghamton, NY and Scranton. She also volunteered at the
Serendipity Center in Hawley. She was a Diamond Disciple Member of Hawley
United Methodist Church since 1943.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Robert E. Kimble,
at home; a daughter, Donna Ludwig of Bethany; two sons, Robert H. Kimble of
Lake Ariel and Gerald W. Kimble of Granby, CT; seven grandchildren and a
great-granddaughter.
Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of
the family.

HAROLD LANGHANS
DUNEDIN, FL – Harold Langhans, former 39-year resident of
Welcome Lake, PA, died November 4, 2003, at home. He was 80.
The son of the late Nicholas Adam and Margaret Randall
Langhans, he was born September 3, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY.
He was a retired maintenance worker for the New York City
Housing Authority and a veteran of the US Navy, serving in WWII. He was a
member of the Tri-State German American Club, Port Jervis, NY; the Welcome Lake
Social Club; and the VFW of Port Jervis.
Survivors include two daughters, Colleen Rydzewski and
Marilyn Lopez of Shirley, NY; two brothers, John of Seattle, WA and William of
Clearwater, FL; and several grandchildren.
Interment was in Indian Orchard Cemetery.

ANTHONY L. MARINO, SR.
LAKEVILLE, PA – Anthony L. Marino, Sr., a 30-year resident
of Lakeville, died November 3, 2003, at home. He was70.
The son of the late Joseph and Sophia Fillpelli Marino, he
was born in Little Falls, NJ.
He was a retired mechanical and electrical engineer at
Bendix Corp. in NJ. He was a graduate of Farleigh Dickinson College, Madison,
NJ. He was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Bishop Hoban
Council, Past Grand Knight and a member of Queen of Peace RC Church, Hawley.
Survivors include his wife Esther F. (Spallone) Marino;
three sons, Anthony L. of Quakertown, Mark of Long Valley, NJ, and Scott Marino
of Hawley; two brothers, Frank Marino of Warrenton, VA and Mario Marino of
Little Falls, NJ and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on November 7 at Queen of Peace
Roman Catholic Church and interment was in Queen of Peace cemetery.

SHIRLEY GLICKMAN MOSKOWITZ
PECKVILLE, PA – Shirley Glickman Moskowitz died on November
4 in Hospice Preferred Choice in Peckville. She was 70.
The daughter of the late Louis and Esther Tabachnick
Glickman, she was born in Brooklyn, NY.
She was a housewife and an avid flea market seller.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years Irwin Moskowitz of
Hawley and Ft. Meyers, FL; a daughter, Mindy Brintz and a son, Mitchell, both
of Cape Coral, FL; a brother, Martin Glickman of Staten Island, NY; and one
grandson.
A memorial service will be held in Florida at a time to be
announced.
RICHARD EARL PALMER
BARRYVILLE, NY – Richard Earl Palmer, lifelong resident of
the area, died November 8, 2003 at home. He was 92.
The son of the late Earl King and Catherine O’Grady Palmer,
he was born January 21, 1911 in Barryville.
He was a retired civil engineer for 41 years with Sullivan
County Department of Public Works. He was a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic
Church and the Lackawaxen Missions, Shohola, PA; former town justice for the
Town of Highland for 16 years; member of the New York State Magistrates
Association; first dwelling ordinance enforcement officer for the Town of
Highland; six year retired member of CSEA; veteran of WWII in the US Navy with the
5th Naval Battalion (Sea-Bees); member and past commander of the Sylvan-Liebla
American Legion Post #1363 and served many years as a volunteer with the
Ambulance and First Aid. He was also a member of the Yulan Fire Department,
honorary and life member and past president and treasurer of the Eldred
Mountain Stream Rod & Gun Club, and member of AARP. He was an avid hunter
and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Eleanora Alston
Palmer, at home; and one nephew, Gary Eckhart of Barryville.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on November 12 at
St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Shohola, PA. Interment was in Montoza
Cemetery, Barryville.

MAYOR JOSEPH W. RICCIARDI
MATAMORAS, PA – Mayor Joseph W. Ricciardi, a lifelong area
resident, died October 27, 2003 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port
Jervis. He was 88.
The son of the late Donato and Maria Petrulla Ricciardi, he
was born on April 24, 1915 in Port Jervis, NY.
He was the former owner of Mayor’s Corner Store in
Matamoras, the mayor of the Borough of Matamoras from1971 to 2002, a retired
night manager for Kissen News Agency in Port Jervis for 48 years and bus driver
for Delaware Valley School District.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in
Matamoras, a veteran of WWII in the US Army and a member of Roosa Fleming
V.F.W. Post #161 in Port Jervis. He was an avid bowler and a member of the
Middletown Bowling Association and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. He was
a member of the Port Jervis City League of Bowlers and bowled for many years at
PJ Bowl.
Survivors include his wife, Grayce Hardwick Ricciardi at
home; daughters, Sandra Galang of Avon, OH, Sue Ricciardi of Arnold, MD, Sherry
Suter of Stevensville, MD Pam McKean of Shohola, PA; and Michele Bensley of
Matamoras; son William Ricciardi of Matamoras; sister Angela Ricciardi of Port
Jervis; 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras.
