Bird’s eye view

LACKAWAXEN, PA — As if on cue, two mature bald eagles soared in before visitors at the National Park Service’s anniversary ceremonies Sunday afternoon and then perched imperiously as cameras clicked below them.

The cold weather months will bring more visitors to view Upper Delaware bald eagles, and the Eagle Institute is preparing.

Their annual volunteer orientation program to train volunteers for the winter eagle monitoring and interpretive program is set for Saturday, December 6, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the Institute’s winter field office, 176 Scenic Drive, in Lackawaxen.

Volunteers will be trained to collect data about the more than 150 eagles that migrate to this region every winter and to help the thousands of people who want to view the eagles in the safest and least intrusive manner.

Registration is required. For more information, call 845/557-6162 or 570/685-5960 or email at eagleinstitute@yahoo.com to sign up.
