CAROL LOUISE NELSON GOODWIN

HAWLEY, PA—Carol Louise Nelson Goodwin, an eight-year resident of Hawley, died at home on October 29, 2003. She was 62.

The daughter of the late William and Isabell Merkins Nelson, she was born in Buffalo, NY.

She was employed as a reservations manager at Pine Crest Yacht Club and was a member of the Unitarian Church of Buffalo.

Survivors include a son, Michael Goodwin of Hawley, and a brother, Edwin Skip Nelson of Kingston, Ontario.

A graveside service and interment took place on November 1 in Green Lawn Cemetery, North Wales.

JOSEPH W. KIZER

BEACH LAKE, PA—Joseph W. Kizer of Beach Lake, a former White Mills resident, died on November 2, 2003 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 69.

The son of the late Jasper J. and May J. Kittner Kizer, he was born on September 27, 1934 in White Mills.

He was employed for 26 years at the S. J. Bailey & Sons Furniture Company in Honesdale. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in White Mills and he attended St. Bernard’s Church in Beach Lake. He was a life honorary member of both the White Mills Fire Company and the White Mills Hunters Association.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann; two sons, Joseph Kizer of North Carolina and David Kizer of Beach Lake; one daughter, Darlene Yedinak of Moscow, and six grandchildren.

The funeral will take place on November 6 at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale, the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, White Mills and interment in St. Mary Magdalen’s Cemetery, Honesdale.

JEFFREY JOHN KLIKUS

HAWLEY, PA—Jeffrey John Klikus, lifelong resident of Hawley, died on October 28, 2003 at Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA following an accident. He was 32.

The son of Joseph L. and Carol A. Shumek Klikus of Hawley, he was born in Honesdale.

He was a self-employed electrician and was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Survivors include two brothers, Joseph M. Klikus of Hawley and Todd Klikus of Beach Lake.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

KATHERINE MINEW

BEACH LAKE, PA—Katherine Minew, a 33-year resident of Beach Lake, died on October 26, 2003 at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart. She was 94.

The daughter of the late Bernard and Louise Pickel Glorius, she was born on January 11, 1909 in Brooklyn NY.

She was a housewife and member of St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church in Beach Lake as well as former secretary of its Rosary Society.

Survivors include a sister, Loretta Cowan of Beach Lake, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Interment was in Beach Lake Cemetery, Beach Lake.

JOHN L. “JACK” MOELLER

GREELEY, PA—John L. “Jack” Moeller died on October 28, 2003 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 80.

The son of the late Louis and Alice MacDonald Moeller, he was born on May 11, 1923 in Hackensack, NJ.

He was an optical effects technician for Film Formatics and Film Opticals, New York, NY. He was a WWII Army veteran, a member of the Marsch-Kellogg American Legion Post #139, Milford, PA, the Eckert-Haupt VFW #5635, Lackawaxen, PA, the 1st Calvary Reunion Association and The New York City Local Screen Cartoonist Guild – International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees.

Survivors include two sons, John A. Moeller of Westtown, NY and Jeffrey Moeller of Redondo Beach, CA; two daughters, Alice Alter of Dayton, OH and Marion Moeller of Dumont, NJ and 13 grandchildren.

JOAN ROBISCH

BEACH LAKE, PA—Joan Robish died on October 27, 2003 at home. She was 70.

The daughter of the late Russell and Hilda Sutliff Smith, she was born on June 3, 1933 in Honesdale.

She was a retired administrative assistant for First Jersey Bank, Newark, NJ and a longtime resident of Beach Lake.

Survivors include her husband James Robisch, at home; two daughters, Wendy Adams of Callicoon Center, NY and Wanda Weigelt of Smallwood, NY; one son, Arthur Dirie of Saugerties, NY; one sister, Patricia Stalker of Binghamton, NY; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon. Interment will be in Hortonville Cemetery following the service.

L. GEORGE SIMPSON

HAWLEY, PA—L. George Simpson, a 25-year resident of Hawley, died on October 26, 2003 at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. He was 85.

The son of the late Lionel and Constance Parsons Simpson, he was born in Stamford, CT.

He worked as a telephone assembler for Western Electric before retiring in 1980.

He served in the US Army during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post 311, Hawley. He had a great love of history and Hawaiian music.

Survivors include a cousin, several nieces and nephews.

Interment was in the Queen of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.

ELFRIEDE VAN TASSELL

YULAN, NY—Elfriede Van Tassell, a 33-year resident of Yulan, died on October 27, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Place, Port Jervis, NY. She was 82.

The daughter of the late Adolph and Elizabeth Loeffel Mehls, she was born on November 29, 1920 in Germany.

She was a retired secretary at F. W. Woolworth’s in New York City and a member of St. Anthony’s Church of Padua, Yulan and the Rosary Society. She belonged to the VFW Post #6427, Ladies Auxiliary, Narrowsburg.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Irvin Van Tassell, at home; a son, Richard Van Tassell of Littleton, CO and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Cremation will be at H. G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.
