Pumpkin festival was a hit
By DAVID HULSE
BARRYVILLE, NY — Brilliant blue skies and mild temperatures
made for perfect conditions as hundreds of people turned out last Saturday,
October 25 for the first annual Pumpkin Festival at the Spring House in
Barryville.
The day featured Halloween costume contests for children of
various ages, adults and pets, live entertainment, a silent auction and a very
messy pie-eating contest.
Close to a score of exhibitors were on hand selling
everything from log cabins to tarot card readings.
Pumpkins were not forgotten. Decorated gourds were
everywhere around a hay bale maze constructed for the kids. Jeanne
McKean of the Step-by-Step pre-school in Barryville said that 28
of her students had participated in a decorating contest at school.
“Everybody won,” she said.
