Election 2003

In addition to plain geography, motorists at this Route 97 intersection are faced with philosophical directions as candidates' posters clutter the scenic landscape. (Click for larger image)

The next 12 pages include candidates’ statements and photographs, which The River Reporter solicited from folks running for local office this fall. The words and images are theirs and they are provided for free.

As they deal with elected officials closest to home, local elections traditionally draw the most voter interest in our Upper Delaware Valley. This year will likely be no exception as voters will choose county commissioners in Pike and Wayne counties and a new legislature in Sullivan County.

Pike and Wayne will also pick district attorneys, and in a special election, Sullivan will select a new state assemblyman.

Closest to home though are town and township elections where supervisors races will be decided on both sides of the river, along with council members, town clerks, town justices and tax collectors.

Every time we are asked to vote, we should be conscientious in taking part and making decisions, and just as one vote counts among the millions cast for president, you can be certain that one vote counts among hundreds in municipal races.
