ELDRED, NY — Eldred coach Joe Rubino was proud of his team
on October 20.
Despite their winless season, they played hard, especially
in this final game of the season. The Yellowjackets were finally able to get
the ball in the net against the Class B Sullivan West Bulldogs. Kyle Steimle
had his first goal of the season on a penalty kick. Kyle Anthony had a pair of
goals and Andrew Babula added another. Goalie Greg Fotiades recorded 10 saves
and Nick Kalufas made 14.
The Bulldogs unleashed a torrent of goals, including ones
from Ross Bernhardt, Jonathan Reynolds and Bill Nordenhold. Captain Mike
Erlwein scored two goals and senior Greg Brewer scored three. Assists were
turned in by Reynolds, Erlwein, Nordenhold, Garrett Owen, Jeremy Morgan and
Bryce Copp. Both Eldred 0-11 (0-7 OCIAA) and Sullivan West 3-11 (2-9 OCIAA)
failed to make the sectionals this year.

ELDRED, NY — Facing Chester (15-3) on October 24, the Eldred
Yellowjackets (7-9) had an opportunity to play against one of the area’s
premiere teams while looking forward to their October 27 sectional quarterfinal
match against Chapel Field.
Chester, looking like a prime contender for the Class C
title, got a pair of goals from senior Tonya Hipsman, who also delivered a key
assist to teammate Katrina Cook at 27:01 of the first half.
Cook picked up the pass in front of the left hand corner of
the goal and drove it home past Eldred goalie Allison Schombs. Cook returned
the favor by passing to Hipsman who drove straight on for Chester’s second
score at 8:36. Cook had a second goal in the first half with only 22 seconds
remaining. Each girl scored another goal in the second half.
Hipsman ended her regular season with 41 goals. Chester will
have to get by Tuxedo to take the Class C title. The two teams split during the
regular season.
Hipsman, a top student, is actively being recruited by a
number of colleges, including Adelphi and Manhattan.
New Paltz 7, Sullivan West 0
NEW PALTZ, NY — Making the trip down to New Paltz (11-5-1)
proved frustrating to the Bulldogs (4-14) as their season ended with a
one-sided 7-0 loss on October 23.
Megan Bordino and Devon Ciliberto each scored two goals for
New Paltz. More damage came from goals by Megan Salt, Jessica Pretsch and Jenn
Phillips. Courtney Neenan and Maria Gonzalez each had a pair of assists. Other
help came from Phillips and Kathleen Carroll.
Rachel Peloquin played goalie for Sullivan West, taking over
for the injured Amanda Patterson who broke her foot in the last game against
the Family School. Peloquin registered 10 saves. Kristen Stanmyer had no saves
as their was very little action in the New Paltz end of the field.
Sullivan West will honor its fall athletes on November 19 at
6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Sullivan West high school.
