Eldred vanquishes Chapel Field and heads to finals

FLORIDA, NY — Eldred may have lost to Chapel Field twice this season, but they won the game that mattered.

 In their regular season games, Eldred lost 4-1 and 3-2, but in the sectional semifinal match up on rainy October 27, the Yellowjackets broke through with a first half goal by Jenny Haas. Jamie Schombs provided the assist and the Yellowjackets’ defense did the rest.

Chapel Field’s Julie Schaper recorded two saves. Seeded second, Chapel Field ended the season at 11-6, while Eldred finished at 8-9 and earned the right to advance.

Eldred goalie Alli Schombs registered 24 saves as Chapel Field kept up the pressure, and the Eldred defense proved they were up to the challenge as well. Only three Class D girls’ teams made it to sectionals this year. Eldred and Chapel Field were playing for a berth in the finals against S.S. Seward (17-1) at Delano-Hitch Stadium in Newburgh on October 2.

S.S. Seward defeated Eldred during the season by scores of 5-0 and 2-1. S.S.Seward’s only loss of the year came against Class C Tuxedo.
