Canfield campaigns as “write-in”
By TOM
KANE
DAMASCUS, PA — Jennifer Canfield, an interim
supervisor of Damascus Township, will campaign as a “write-in”
candidate for supervisor in the November elections.
A week ago, the Damascus Supervisors named Canfield,
the owner of the Calbert Real Estate Agency, to fill the unexpired
term of Republican supervisor Larry Newport who resigned a month
ago.
Newport’s name will still appear on the ballot.
Fred Haase is the Democratic candidate for supervisor.
Canfield, who ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat
against incumbent supervisor William Gager two years ago, is a former
member of the township’s planning commission.
“I know it’s difficult to do, but we’re going to
try to explain to people how they can split their vote and write
in the name of a candidate whose name is not on the ballot,” Canfield
said.
“A voter in the booth has to find the number and
name of the position for which they are voting, lift the slide right
above it and write in the name,” said director of the Wayne County
Bureau of Elections. “The number for supervisor is #19 on this ballot.”
