Rolling over the river

NARROWSBURG, NY —A North Carolina man was not injured on October 16 when his Ford Aerostar van flipped over on its side on the Narrowsburg Interstate Bridge.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department report identified the driver as 73-year-old Albert VanDyke, Jr. of Pisgah Forest, NC.

A witness on the scene said the van swerved into the eastbound lane of the open-grate bridge, collided with the curb and tipped onto the vehicle’s driver side. Narrowsburg Fire Department volunteers helped VanDyke out of the van, which lay on its side facing east.

According to the police report, the vehicle “slid on the bridge surface” and “skidded into the eastbound curb and flipped over coming to rest driver side.” Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Service personnel treated VanDyke, who was released without a trip to the hospital.
