GLEN SPEY, NY — With plans of becoming a U.S. Army medic, Casey Wilson will begin basic training in Fort Benning, GA in early November. After 11 weeks, he will attend Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas for 15 weeks of medical training, and then return to Fort Benning to learn airborne-rescue techniques.

“I might need to go to the Middle East to help out. It’s not something I really want to do, but I will,” Wilson said.

When the 2003 Eldred High School graduate joined the Lumberland Ambulance Corp in August of 2002, he was the youngest Emergency Medical Technician in Sullivan County. He hopes to become a registered nurse when he leaves the service.

“If you had a son, you would want him to be like Casey,” Lumberland Supervisor John LiGreci said.
