DOROTHY L. BROWN

CHARLOTTE, NC — Dorothy L. Brown died on October 4 in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was 92.

The daughter of the late Henry J. and Veronica E. Gilbert, she was born in Auburn, NY, and she lived in Eldred for 27 years.

Dorothy is survived by her children, John A. Brown, Joanne E. Brown, Jeanne M. Messe and Joyce A. Brown, and her sister, Vera Masters.

Cremation services were held in Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the W.W.T.N., 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210, or to Boy Scouts of America, 4315 U.S. Hwy. 1 South, Monmounth Junction, NJ 08852.

JAMES W. BUCKINGHAM

HAWLEY, PA — James E. Buckinham died on October 8 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. He was 78.

The son of Royal Buckingham and Jane Legg, he was born in Honesdale, PA.

After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, James was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal with four stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Local #261 Carpenter’s Union.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Buckingham, of Hawley; a daughter, Pamela Broadhead, of Newport Center, VT; a son, Larry J. Buckingham of Lakeville, PA; and a sister, Helen Theobald of Lake Ariel, PA.

Interment will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale, PA.

RUTH ORR BYRD

NASHUA, NH — Ruth Orr Byrd died on October 4 in Nashua, NH. She was 91.

The daughter of Edmund J. Orr and the former Margaret Ida Calkins, she was born in Milanville, PA.

She worked for 33 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, rising to section supervisor. After retiring to Hunt Retirement Community in Nashua, NH, she recorded many of the events that had occurred in Milanville during her youth as part of a program in which residents of that community wrote down the stories of their lives.

Interment will be at the Milanville Cemetery. A viewing was held at Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg, NY on October 10.

RICHARD A. COLLINS

HONESDALE, PA — Richard A. Collins died on October 10 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. He was 82.

The son of Raymond and Estella Noble Collins, he was born in Carbondale, PA. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Boyds Mills Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife, Louise and two daughters, Estella Olsen and Susannah Austin, all of Milanville, PA.

Cremation will take place at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Damascus Volunteer Ambulance or to the Beach Lake Fire Department.

ANNE S. (MUSICK) KULPA

WAYMART, PA — Anne S. (Musick) Kulpa died on October 9 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart. She was 79.

The daughter of John and Sophie Music, she was born in Swedland, PA.

Anne was a homemaker and was affiliated with St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hawley, PA.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Anne Ragusa of Paupack, PA, and two sons, Walter J. Bodge of Hawley and William R. Bodge of Pottsgrove, PA.

Interment will take place at Indian Orchard Cemetery in Honesdale.

LEON “BUB” MCGAR

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — Leon “Bub” McGar died on October 4 at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. He was 65.

He was born in Liberty, NY to Leon C. Sr. and Mabel Slawson McGar and was a member of the Hunter Road Hunting Club.

He is survived by his parents, Leon C. Sr. and Mabel McGar of Livingston Manor; his long-time companion, Dixie Lee of Egg Harbor, NJ; two daughters, Glenda Amador and Cleta Magyar of Royal Palm Beach, FL; one brother, Fred McGar; and two sisters, Joan Robinson of Livingston Manor and Virginia Gartland of White Sulphur Springs, NY.

His family received friends at Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor on October 11.

ALMA D. MILLER

HONESDALE, PA — Alma D. Miller died at Wayne Memorial Hospital on October 19. She was 81.

The daughter of Farrington C. Case and Lillian M. Mingst Case Fields, she was born in Welcome Lake, PA.

Along with her husband, she owned and operated Millers Dairy Bar in Hawley and built and operated a laundromat in Tafton, PA. She was a member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women Society, the Welcome Lake Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Welcome Lake Ladies Aid.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Schmidt of Greeley, PA; a son, David Miller of Welcome Lake; and a brother, Farrington “Buck” Case.

A memorial service was held at the Beach Lake United Methodist Church on October 12. Cremation will take place at the Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, the Welcome Lake Fire Company or the American Cancer Society.

EVE H. MURPHY

LAKE ARIEL, PA — Eve H. Murphy died Monday, October 6 at the Hospice Care Unit at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA. She was 69.

Eve is survived by her husband, Gerald, four sons and eight grandchildren.

Ms. Murphy was a founding member and first woman president of the First Unitarian Church of Monmouth County, NJ. After retiring to Bethany, she used her experience to guide the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, which is now based at Beach Lake.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bud Rue Walk for Social Justice, care of the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

MARGARET ANN RUTHERFORD

BARRYVILLE, NY — Margaret Ann Rutherford died on October 6 at her home in Barryville. She was 96.

The daughter of the late William and Mary Ann Irvine, she was born in Jersey City, NJ.

She was a mentor to those around her and a lover of wildlife.

HELEN SCHLEIDER

BETHEL, NY — Helen Schleider died on October 6 at the Silvercrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Briarwood. She was 90.

She was born in Newark NJ to Reuben and Anna Fishman.

She was a life member of Hadassah, B’nai Brith, Mothers of Bethel, the Sisterhood of Temple Beth-El and the Bethel Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her daughter, Anita L. Schleider.
