BETHEL, NY — Results from the Bethel Woods’ Fall Harvest Festival scarecrow contest found “Give Peas a Chance” the top choice of voters.

Sullivan Peace and Justice took home $100 for the first place prize with their “Give Peas A Chance” scarecrow. Eddies Famous Foods of Jeffersonville’s “Outhouse Scarecrow” came in second, winning a basket of farmers’ market products.

Results from “A Chili Day in October” at the final festival day on October 12 showed that the Monticello Fire Department makes the best chili in Sullivan County.

Festival participants sampled recipes prepared by the Monticello, Kauneonga Lake, Lake Huntington-Cochecton, Rock Hill and Smallwood fire departments. Monticello firefighters accepted a trophy designed and donated by fire truck manufacturer Sutphen East of Bethel.

“We want to thank the community and all our vendors for making this one of the most successful outdoor events in Sullivan County. We look forward to seeing everyone next year,” said Jonathan Drapkin, executive director of the Gerry Foundation. For more information call 845/295-2448.
