Democrats angry about landfill resolution timing

MONTICELLO, NY — Timothy Hill, the newly elected chairman of the Sullivan County Democratic Party, says he was disappointed with last week’s “political grandstanding” in the Sullivan County Legislature.

During the October 2 session, Republican legislators sponsored a measure that explores ending garbage importation at the Sullivan County Landfill.

On September 16, the Democratic legislative candidates suggested the same action when they released their platform.

Hill said, “While we are pleased that a review of the landfill is being done, the timing is not genuine. The Republican leadership in the legislature has a consistent voting record of supporting importation. With the election one month away, the GOP is grandstanding to the voters who are opposed to the landfill.”

Hill was elected chairman of the Democratic Party on September 27, replacing Robert Krutman.
