Natural flow restored to Neversink River

CUDDEBACKVILLE, NY — After five years of research, monitoring and consultation with hydrologists and freshwater conservation experts, The Nature Conservancy is poised to remove the Cuddebackville Dam from the Neversink River.

Built in 1828 and now inoperative, this dam blocks dispersal of many aquatic life species and prevents migrating fish from reaching much of their spawning grounds. The Nature Conservancy will celebrate the dam removal and subsequent return of the Neversink’s organic ebbs and flows on Wednesday, October 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the Orange County Delaware and Hudson Canal Park Visitor Center.

To determine the exact date of the dam removal call 914/244-3271.
